The latest Vladmobile (BMW E36 content!)

Update from early May:

The dropping is coming! For now, though, my latest bargain...

Some quality time vacuuming before popping something in...

Awh yeah.

Electric, too!

And a black leather rear bench/seats from my breaking one until I find a tidy grey one from a Touring.

Next up- collect painted parts on May 18th, fit LSD, apply new suspension, new exhaust, remap, finish BBSs. Then she's pretty much ready for the 'Ring. Big thanks to Lee for helping fit them.

FTFY :p

One small update... well, it's kinda big for me. Wasn't totally sure about the BBS wheels, which I think are more suited to the coupés... so I stumbled across some utterly lovely Style 32s on here (

Well, after a lot of ballache my car finally has an M50 intake manifold. Never doing that again in a hurry. Or ever! Difference in port sizes- holy COW! About 40% larger on the M50! I know what

Right, finally, some good progress. Spent a lot of time ripping apart various parts of the car the last couple of weeks, and I'm pleased to say that Claudia has even more of a bite to match her bark.

Had a quick blast in her today, thanks, Sam :) I do really like how she goes now, can't wait to hear that new 'zorst mate.

Oh, go on then...

Custom-made update for you Briskodians.

Well, she's done a lot since the last update. A hell of a lot...

First things first, August 2013. She got a service, a road trip, and a lot of usage.

20130630_134435.jpg

New plugs, new oil, other various bits. Please observe my terribly safe work ramps.

apocalyptobmws-5.jpg

Then I took some pictures at half 2 in the morning, and they came out pretty well.

20130720_135449.jpg

This went on. Genuine Sport LSD, locks up like a Jew looking after a bank vault.

20130720_191339.jpg

This was amusing.

20130810_142600.jpg

This was so uplifting!

Scraaaaaaape!

DSC_0007.jpg

This was the start of a brilliant trip.

DSC_0140.jpg

This was fun.

DSC_0258.jpg

And terrifying at the same time!

20130918_135318.jpg

Some expensive scaffolding...

20130920_132517.jpg

These are incredibly beneficial.

james-3.jpg

I love this one.

portsmouth-2.jpg

Late night again. Quite enjoying it.

gareh-4.jpg

Then I had some new boots (we're in December now, by the way). Actually... they're old boots, just put back on!

20131218_101523.jpg

"HUMAN! PUT ME DOWN!!"

20131219_132836.jpg

This was an expensive water pump, but **** me it's gorgeous!

interior-1.jpg

Then the winter shoes came out. And a remapped ECU. Sooooo... 250bhp, standard wheels, and a 318i badge. Yes, I'm a ****.

interior-3.jpg

Black electric Vaders. Laaaaavly.

wheel-1.jpg

And an alcantara steering wheel.

I do believe I've not missed anything out!

epic update! nice figures got my goal to beat then

you got the ebay zhaust to! i hated it lol lasted 1day before i cut the back box off lol

reckon you need my alpina wheels and steering wheel now

She's very very healthy, good luck catching her. ;) next on the list, and the final thing realistically, will be the US-spec M3 cams. Once they're in, it'll be a bespoke map to tie everything together- 265bhp at the absolute minimum. 280bhp is theoretically possible...

It's the Toyosports exhaust, it was £180, I couldn't say no. It sounds utterly fabulous.

Alpinas aren't my style, I'm more a Hartge kinda boy, but I appreciate the offer ;) also have some extra summer wheels...

20130802_125523.jpg

Yes, they are Cadbury's purple flipped with deep blue.

Steering wheel I've only just put on, go steady old chap.  :giggle:  some new clocks and a short shifter kit from AC Schnitzer (both of the items) are in the post as of Friday. Then it's a steering rack rebuild and an M3 x-brace courtesy of my new breaker car...

shaggedvert.jpg

328i, convertible, electric roof, tax, test, £300.

Any tips/tricks/solutions for the E36, gimme a shout and I'll do what I can. :)

coupe is lighter to start with plus mines got the rear stripped so shouldnt be a prob ;)

where you getting cams i want some!!!

ha i paid 170 im winning! really??? loved the sound and pops but to quiet for me.

nah not mine either but they are genuine so gotta be sold plus i love dish!

lol i had similar alloys on the compact,i like em

lol you must want wooden wheel lol

oh man steal!!

yeah how did you find changing diff because ive gotta do it lol

  • Author

You won't catch her. The cams will be on soon enough. ;) cams have to be imported from the US, ideally... as they're only fitted to the US-spec M3s. You could get the Cat Cams version, but they're around £700...

Pfft, someone picked mine up for me and fitted it. :p mine's massively loud, Lee (lee01 on here) has heard me driving home from several streets away!

The Style 32s are kept solely for their dish properties. Nothing more. :p

Wooden... erk... thanks but no thanks! Put it on eBay, some nutter will have it. I advertised my old worn one on eBay, and it went to Germany... like sending coal to Newcastle!

Diff is fun. You need a 16mm spanner (propshaft, 4 bolts), E12 socket (driveshafts, six each side), 18mm socket (2 carrier bolts at back, one big one at the front). Remove backbox, slack off prop bolts, leave car in gear when doing driveshaft bolts, take out of gear and move wheels to get to hard-to-reach driveshaft bolts. Undo the 3 carrier bolts. I'd recommend getting a trolley jack under the diff because it really, really hurts if you drop it on your chest. Refitting is the reverse of removal. :D

lol by the time mine is on the road will more than likey have cams  yeah i had a quick browse for the us cams never seen any for sale, hmmmm 700 :drunk:

ah i had the joy of fitting it,bit of a pleb to fit. really same car same exhaust, maybe yours is broken :mmm:

:D :D

lol yeah i will for sure, has alpina badge and everything lol

doesnt sound to hard then, yeah i gotta a mega jack so wont be a prob, the 325 diff is heavy from carrying it so wouldnt fancy dropping it on myself lol

Well ultimately... there's either a supercharger, a 3.0 M3 engine or a 4.4 V8 going to be occupying the engine bay. So bring whatever firepower you have. No replacement for displacement. :D yeah 700 seemed a bit steep to me!!

I sheared two of the manifold branch bolts... on one branch! Was not impressed! Nah I reckon yours is broken, you've been conned into a standard exhaust. ;)

Definitely advertise it on eBay internationally. Shipping to Germany/Europe is only around £16.

It's not hard once you've done it a couple of times. The breaker I've got coming has had the diff removal assigned to me... yay..! Pulled out 3 or 4 of them now! The 3.15 ratio on the 325 diff will spice up the acceleration a tad!

i was looking at the m3 engines they seem to fetch a bit,not sure yet. you havent read my octy journal then,i always win

lmfao :giggle: :giggle: no just crap. i drove 5miles with no exhaust that is something to be heard,my head was spinning like mad when i got out lol. i didnt shear any makes a change lol

yeah cool stuff got a few bits to get up!

hmm where do you live can do mine lol. yeah should be good

  • Author

Yeah... that's why I'm not sold on the M3 engine. Supercharger kits are also pretty steep. Believe it or not, the V8s are very cheap! Tempting to make my own Alpina B8, so to speak (if you don't know it, it's the E36 with a 4.6 V8 and 333bhp/340lb.ft stuffed in it). I have not read that project... I gave up Skuds pretty quickly! I know the 1.8T could make some major-league numbers though.

I know the feeling well. My exhaust fell off when I was at Nurburgring. Drove the 400 mile trip home with it coming straight out the manifolds. They hated me in the Belgian underground car parks. Sounded amazing though!

As it happens, I do visits to Kent fairly often. One of my best mates lives in Tonbridge. Bring a crate of beer and I'll do it for you/show you how it's done. ;)

if i do anything it will be m3 engine, will just have to wait till the right price comes up,same figures as the s52 more or less? but no i dont know it lol i gave up pretty quickly to but not before trying several setups lol

how?? another second reckon i would of died lol

lol ah your have to come round some time then, lol ill be fine im sure. dont drink so never bought alcohol in my life

If you do go for one, the 3.0 is stronger than the 3.2 and also pulls pretty much just as hard. What you tend to find is that most 3.0s were producing their power or more, whereas the 321bhp of the 3.2 engine wasn't always strictly accurate- around 20 of those horses had usually wandered off to find some hay...

The Alpina B8 was a monster, I'm lucky enough to know one of the 27 Tourings ever made with that cracking combination personally... he visits every so often from Luxembourg.

I turned my stereo up. Loud. When I was doing 100+ down the autoroutes it was getting tiresome though. We had to leg it to make the Chunnel, and pressing on at full throttle was insane- sounded like a Lancaster bomber...

Whereabouts in Kentville are you? If you seriously need it doing I'll be free in the fairly near future! Pfft... you must've bought it as a gift for someone... :p

yeah i have heard that lol didnt know if it was true or not, seems weird that the 20extra is always missing seems a waste of time lol

ah epic get some pics of the bay

really? and that covered it lol made f1 cars seem quiet lol

gillingham so not miles from tonbridge. ill be fine once the weather stops lol nope never

bloody heck!!!! look at the fecking size of that!! dont like it tbh but looks like its packing lol

do you know if the alpina stuff was an option? as mine had the bumper and all the badges and wheels

yea thanks alot

It's subtle!! 6-speed manual as well. Absolute monster of a car! They are insanely quick too, I've been in that one and it's just... mental. The guy who created Alpina says it's his favourite car that he's ever made.

Usually it's retrofit stuff. As far as Alpinas went, the E36 came as the B2.5 (a 325i with uprated cams/pistons/engine management, 220bhp, bodykit stuff), the B3 3.0 as either manual or Switchtronic, the B3 3.2 Switchtronic or the B8 4.6. If it came from Sytner (Alpina's little bespoke place in the UK), there's a chance it could be all genuine Alpina stuff that's been applied from the factory. You can check it online somewhere, be buggered if I can remember where though! :D

No worries. Always a pleasure to help out a fellow E36er!

Good updates :)

Them purple rims will look the bizz ;)

subtle? dont think so lol

insanely quick you say? i have my doubts :giggle: :giggle: 330bhp in what must weigh a bomb :giggle:

cheers for the info

haha indeed!

fun fact!! i have a 316 and a 328 and i can open both cars using either key lol

  • Author

Cheers Si, thought you'd appreciate the mad tyte rimz! :D

Terk- it's pretty subtle :p to most people it's just another old BMW estate... there aren't too many clues for the uninitiated!

It does 0-60 in around 5 secs dead, and I've personally seen it wound out to 186mph. I'd say it's quick enough, and that the 333bhp factory estimate is a bloody lie! It weighs around 1450kg. So not that porky.

Always a pleasure, never a chore... any more info needed will be given!

Er... that's not right?! :p have you tried the doorhandle trick? Lock the car, wait for the light to go out, then lift the driver's doorhandle. Interior light comes on. Really useful for car thieves looking for valuables at night! :(

im sure it goes well, will slaughter ours lol

was something i wanted to know but forgotten now!!! grrr lol

lmao what a load of crap these things are!! the 328 does have some toad alarm and immobilizer with a snap off wheel so happy days lol
