Superb V6 Update - Sharked!

Featured Replies

We've had our Superb V6 estate for two years now, having upgraded from a chipped diesel Octavia. The wife's Octavia II VRS estate has been fully Jabba'd and was used as the 'gold standard' Needless to say this was probably a tad unfair - given that the market that these two cars are aimed at are somewhat different. The Superb V6 is a very good, comfortable estate - but lacked a certain element of excitement.

Therefore, last year, the chaps at AMD Essex loaded a Revo Stage 1 remap and fitted a Pipercross filter, giving a measured 32 BHp and 37 Nm increase. The car felt improved, but I've always found it a bit laggy - blaming throttle response and the DSG gearbox. I was certain the wife changed gear in the Octavia faster and more appropriately! Revo do not have a DSG gearbox remap for this Superb, so I went looking and settled with Shark Performance based on reviews and chatting to them on the phone.

The shopping list with Shark Performance increased however - could not help myself:

DSG remap: improves drivability, appropriate gears in D and S. Monster in manual!

Ferrodo DS2500 pads: have always loved these pads, even if they are noisier.

Bilstein B14 coilovers; planned to get new springs but had my arm twisted by Ben and Mark - thank god!

Pedalbox: to improve throttle response - Ben isn't overly fond of these and feels it should be dealt with by the ECU remap - but the Revo remap throttle response tweaks don't quite do it for me.

(Unfortunately got the car dyno'd by Ben - bad idea - very different numbers. Should have just left it - Ben said the decent thing - forget the numbers, how does it drive.......?)

Awesome! The car is a different beast altogether. The ride is clearly less comfort orientated but the handling is in a different league - on rails with minimal body roll. In D or S, with 2+ on the Pedalbox and Revo SPS tweaked the car is far more responsive - with the gear selection being far more appropriate for how you are driving it. In manual, this thing is a monster and you finally really hear the V6 sing. The wife was decidedly impressed....and looks slightly less keen on her Octavia....(Stick it in Pedalbox Eco and Revo SPS Stock in D and it is still a refined drive but more pleasurable than the unmodded).

I have to say my experience of Shark Performance has been superb. These are all remarkably affable but complete and utter petrol heads with a view to get the best from your car. They do not make any false promises but they will do their best to deliver with a real passion for cars. The drive up from London was worth the time and effort. My respect and thanks go out to all the chaps at Shark Performance, especially Ben, Mark, Rob and Tony.

Now, fuel economy.............

So did you keep the revo software on the ecu or replace it with a Shark map?

Good question - ran through options with Ben, but having paid out for a Revo map - and it being a good one - I kept it.

If I was going to start from scratch again, I would almost certainly get Shark to do the whole lot. Ben will customise to your preference as much as possible - a tuning experience tailored to the car as opposed to a straight remap.

A shame but I understand the reasoning from a financial point of view. :-)

please tell me more about this pedalbox ...

Effectively changes throttle response - again more to do with perceived driveability rather than true performance - means you do not need quite so heavy a right foot. Have found that with the DSG box in D it 'seems' to make it more responsive. However the big wins were with the DSG remap,

Thread resurrection

Looking at an engine and DSG remap to get more from the glorious 3.6 unit.

My choices (if I drive back to the UK for the work where prices are so much more realistic) seem to be between AMD and Shark.

Anyone else had any work done on a 3.6?

Dave

I have had both done mate at shark look at my project thread in the superb 2 section and also in the Shark performance section.

In short the engine remap in hindsight I would not bother with but I would do the DSG remap.
