Would a garage notice......

Featured Replies

.....if a car had a different turbo on it?

My father in law is looking at part ex-ing his Mk 4 Golf PD150 in against a Beemer estate.

Is said BMW dealer likely to notice if the PD150 has been removed and replaced with a PD130?

or do we reckon they'd just be bumping it straight to auction and not really care/check?

Given I've got a spare PD130 in the garage and could find a home for a PD150 it could be an excellent turn of events ;)

They'd probably not notice no. :)

Last two times I've traded in a car they've taken it for a 2 minute run.

Something that I could never do. My conscience would nag at me forever.

I took my SDI for part ex valuation.

Got the price, removed brand new wheel trims already on the car

replaced with the ones my wife and mother in law murdered took it back

and they never noticed. They never drove it at all until they owned it either ;)

My conscience

A what? :D

How would you like it if you bought it? I'm sure engine management light would be on unless you get it mapped to suit.

I'm not condoning it nor really considering it just wondering if/how a garage (especially if it's one for a different marque) would tell.

An engine warning light would probably be a give away :D

Wouldn't notice if you ask me, and who cares about other people really? hahahaah :p ;)

They would if they read this thread!

just do it the price they give you part ex is rubbish anyway and they make it up on the price of the beemer they would not notice and it would probably go straight to auction now if it was going private id say no it would be unfair but all the main steelers rip us motorists off anyway suppose it would be like getting one back on them

No they wouldnt notice. I work at a main dealer VW + the salesmen litterally check for scratches + service history.. then offer u peanuts for it.. thats it. No test drive either..

Then the car comes through to us in the workshop... we murder it... they **** themselves + send it to the block (auction)

Lol :D :D

that was my thought.

when i traded in a Punto TDI for my Ibiza PD130 at a Mazda dealer way back when they took £100 off cos i'd hit a pheasant and broke the bumper since the intial check; but didn't even drive the thing! (which was lucky cos i'd killed the gear linkage and the stick had stopped returning to centre!)

Slight issue from what i can tell though is that while the Golf turbo could be removed and "clocked" to fit the Fabia you can't clock a Fabia turbo in to opposite direction to go on the Golf :(

Do we think would they notice if it had no turbo at all?! :wonder: :D

And the next unlucky owner of the Golf ends up spending £££ to resolve a poor running issue when all along it is because it has a wee turbo stuck on it :D

I got some nice bits for my Fab from a Skoda mechanic who was trading his Fab in for an Octy - it was going in on the Sat so the day before we met up and swapped loads of nice bits from his car and put my old ones onto his :D

besides the black vacuum coming from the exhaust and it sounding like a turd. NOT AT ALL! ;) :p

Why can't you clock the furby turbo? It'll likely be very stiff trying to rotate the housing mind!

I'd say do it, there'll be no eml as your turbo will easily supply a 150's standard boost request :)

Lol this is how i got my set of 130 injectors + 130 intake/ egr..

I m8 of a lad i work with had a 130 tdi bora.. he had declared himself bankrupt so they were coming for his bora (still had finance on it)..

Anyway £50 and a couple of hours l8ter + im running 130 bits... while his started **** + smoked its sack off lol...

They came for it the next day... none the wiser :D
