Windows alarm fault?

Featured Replies

Iwas wondering if anyone could shed some light on the following problem, concerning my 06 vrs

i was about to get in the octy to travel to work this morning when i notice all the windows were down about 4" at the front and the rear windows were down about 2 " ,i havnt pressed the fob and there was no way it could have been pressed,

later on in the day a workmate informed me my window was open ,only to find the nsr window fully open,is this a known fault,is this a problem with the alarm, can the alarm module be simply replaced or will the fobs and such like need reprograming,

also if i got somone with vagcom to disable the "keyfob opening and closing of windows feature" would this cure it ive read a load of posts and cant find a answer

would greatly appreciate any input

I have had a similar problem on at least 6 occasions. I return to the car and find all the windows usually half open but today fully open. Two weeks ago I was parked about 50 mtrs from the house with the semi inbetween - I guess this may still be near enough for the fob to work. ( But I have noticed that when I want to use the window opening facility, I must be quite close to the vehicle - MUCH closer than the maximum lock-operating distance.) In the morning I found the windows 1/2 open. The next evening I closed and locked the car and carried the key fob open in my hand so that the buttons could not be touched. Next morning the windows were 1/2 open again. I don't believe the problem is caused by holding down the unlock button but I cannot be absolutely sure. Unfortunately I did not check whether the doors were locked - but I guess the safety re-locking might operate if no doors were opened after a spurious unlock. This has happened near Petersfield UK and in France.

norman ,my car has been fine since ,so i put it down to a glitch in the system? although if it started to be a regular occurence then i would have this feature disabled ,i believe this is possible through vagcom

There is another thread on this "Problem with Windows opening themselves". It looks to me as though this is a real problem. One post said that he had changed the fob battery and had not had a problem since. That is unconvincing both electronically and because intermittent problems are difficult to diagnose/cure. I believe later Octavia's give the owner the possibility of choosing to have the facility or not through the car computer - mine does not, though as you say the facility could be turned off by the dealer.
