New sat nav option?

Featured Replies

looks great. makes a factory columbus at £1,600 quid look ridiculously priced.

Looks like the mk7 golf unit in its styling. Very good unit and as long as it works with maxidot its hard to fault.

have you looked at the Kenwood DNX520VBT ?

there is a group buy on here for well under £500

i have it fitted in my Superb if you want to see it working

I also have one - very good value for money.

Only downside is the front facing Ipod connector. Oh, Garmin works well but I'm a TomTom user.

I have a Blackline, which came with the Amundsen+ and am considering getting one of these as I like the media and BT capabilities and don't like the retro fit solutions. Maybe it's because I don't like tinkering with my gadgets. I was told by the guy at my local dealer that I won't lose any functionality I currently have if I get the DNX521DAB fitted. Can anyone confirm that? Also, anyone knows where I can get the DAB for less than the £900 Amazon is asking?

Thanks in advance.

Before spending your hard earned cash, you may want to look at this thread: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/252899-amunsden-plus-bluetooth-and-microphone-install-how-to/

Full Bluetooth for both calls and music streaming for less than £40!

vw have been offering these (vw back lighting version) for sometime

can't say I like it and doesn't look as good as a factory radio. But each to their own taste

When I had a demo from Skoda for a VRS a year or so ago, they had this in it as a dealer fit option, what a load of rubbish, the back lighting was horrible, the screen cheap and tacky looking, yes it may have lots of functionality, but a Columbus looks so much better where as this just does look 'aftermarket' which I appreciate some people dont mind, its not for me.

Well. I followed Bmhill' s advice. And went for the older cheaper version of this, and to be perfectly honest it doesn't look aftermarket at all. And so far beats Columbus on quality, functionality, ease of installation and PRICE. Here is my DNX520VBT installed by myself. Total cost with new trim, and £10 airbag error reset (which i caused), was £470 with ipod lead. How's this for a bargain?

Does it function with the maxi dot and parking sensors?

  • Author

Nope and nope. But i only use maxidot to check my trip related info. And parking sensor display is useless in my opinion as anyone is better off looking in their mirrors than onto a screen. It does work with a MFSW., and has satnav, bluetooth, dvd player built in and it is fairly easy install for a semi knowledgeable person.

Hello,

Anyone using this unit in heavy traffic spots?

If so, how do you find the traffic data on it? Is it any good?

Thanks

Ludo

How much do you think I can get for my Blackline Amundsen?

How much do you think I can get for my Blackline Amundsen?

Probably £300 ish

why you would want to sell it?

The amundsen + is not that bad

Built in Bluetooth, DAB and the option for a RVC

What's RVC?

RVC = Rear View Camera

I will be fitting one to my Vrs soon

I have a Columbus, but the Amundsen+ has a video input too

What's involved? Is there a write up?

Long sold out I tried to get one about a month ago. :(

You can I believe connect ipod from back via the mini USB socket and the kenwood cable its on Ebay. There were ones under a tenner a month ago in UK when I checked but only see this one now. I saw the option in the manual for the DNX520VBT itself. Check it out.
