Netbook for VCDS?

Featured Replies

My main laptop is becoming a bit slow, so I am looking at purchasing an old (reliable...?) netbook to hopefully have quicker boot-up times, and meaning a more portable machine. My laptop is my main PC so it sits on my desk with cables all hooked up to various things. Netbook for VCDS only would be useful.

Any pointers? is it basically like buying another laptop anyway in terms of spec, etc? Ideally would like to find one for around the £50 mark,

That is exactly what I run VCDS on.

Pick one with a decent processor in it (Samsung are meant to be one of the better Netbooks) an don't load it up with unnecessary programs and it will be fine.

That said mine had Windows7 Ultimate and Office 2010 on it and the only thing I can fault it for is booting up, once started it is fine.

I'm selling this for £70 inc. delivery if you're interested:

The screen can be rotated round and folded flat to form a touchscreen tablet.

Thought about putting an SSD in your old laptop?

I did it to mine and it flies. You can get 120Gb drives now for about £50.

Thanks, but I am probably after one older & cheaper. Ideally want a shoulder strap equipped carry bag too. :D

if it's gonna be for VCDS only, keep it as lightweight as possible, in terms of background programmes. If it's not connected to the web, even better. As a diagnostic tool only, away from mains power to run it, you'll need to conserve battery life as much as possible.
