TMC Tuning Box

Featured Replies

Sorry for bumping this thread, but i thought it would be better than starting a new thread with the same topic.

Would a box from TMC really void the warranty? Sure if i returned the car to the dealer with the box mounted it would, but will the dealer be able to see that a box have been mounted if i removed it?

Im thinking of going for a TMC-box instead of a remap since the remap definitly will void the warranty..

If you remove it then it shouldnt void the warranty. But how simple is it to remove? If you break down on the side of the road and call skoda assist, will you have the tools to remove it at the side of the road?

30 torq piece, flat screwdriver/angled pick, maybe snips if you used cable ties to secure it in place

As Sib-RS wrote above it should be quite easy to remove.

My main concern would be if the ECU knew that something was connected between the ECU and the sensors for a example. If it does that then the workshop would be able to see that and then the warranty isnt worth anything at all.

Is there any downside with a TMC box compared to a remap? Would one of the 2 options be tougher to any components in the engine/drivetrain?

I can get a free remap from a well know tuning company in Sweden, in return they will loan my car for 2-3days and develop the software/map for my engine and then sell that map to others. They will also give me a 1year warranty if something breaks and the Skoda warranty doesnt cover it. Since my car will be brand new and im thinking of doing this spring 2013 i really want a option which still gives me some kind of warranty..

This is an interesting debate. I've toyed with the idea of a remap or tuning box but in the end have always been at odds with taking the plunge. Cars on a 3 year PCP, is now 18 months old and the chances of me keeping it at the end of the term are slim.

A decent remap is the best thing but then would invalidate the warranty and leave you mostly with no choice but to run it on 97-98 ron fuel, something I can personally no longer do (company fuel card). Also given most cars need their ECU's opening....gives me the chills.

TMC is a good solution but suspect ultimately not so good for the mechanical longevity of the motor. Also as much of a petrolhead as I am I'm not great under a bonnet so whilst I have a mate that could install It for me in minutes and show me what to do I'd be concerned about it breaking down and having to take apart some rather important wiring to get it out.

I've ended up giving it a miss for the reasons above, but also that I don't want to invest money in something I'm likely giving back to Skoda before long and that any improvement in straight line performance will at very least require some suspension and maybe brake upgrades which again will cause warranty issues. Each to their own but Skoda will look for any old excuse not to pay out for warranty work and I personally don't want to give them ammo....in any case a Skoda Fabia capable of 6.5ish 0-60 and 140mph is silly enough for me at least!

A great step by step as always from VRS-Powered.
