Anyone recommend me an E-reader

Have you read the recent case where amazon remotely wiped some woman's kindle because of some perceived breach of terms. Remember with kindle you're not buying books but buying a licence to read amazon's books. You don't own the books at all.

They've done a couple of things like that. Although that woman was apparently buying books in the UK using a false account to use the content in Norway. I'm assuming differing legal stuff means you shouldn't do that.

Considering the number of Kindle users Vs the number of issues I don't think it's really a big issue. Sony is hardly an example of corporate virtue.

I'm not suggesting Sony are virtuous, merely that if you buy kindle then you are buying a device which you must use according to their rules, namely buy content where Amazon tell you to and not anywhere else. Sony offer me a sony store but actually I've never bought from it - they don't disable my device. I buy from wherever I choose to, Kobo, waterstones, WHM Smith before they pulled their service, tesco, epubbooks, book depository, you name it. And I own these, it's not a licence to use as per the amazon model.

There has been a growing number of people getting into legal fights (mainly with apple so far) when they find they've spent thousands on their music collection only to find they can't leave it to someone on their will since they don't own it as they had thought.

Like a lot of people, me and the g/f thought the Kobo was a cheap knock off.

But... It is a great bit of kit. One thing that they fail to get across is you can get books from the library for FREE. Just like a physical book.

Stick that up your Micro USB Kindle!!!

Wait till next year and get a beagle

True. They've just started ebook lending here and Kindles are specifically excluded.

just joined my local library too as they announced they have launched e lending. Kindle is excluded because of Amazon's licencing restrictions - I guess amazon would rather you buy the content from them rather than borrow it from the library.

amazon has their own lending service for Prime members.

I got rolled over into a prime membership. 50 quid a year <img src='http://www.briskoda.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/emoticon-0104-surprised.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':o' />

The local library is free.
