Exhaust heat shield screw corroded :(

Featured Replies

Hey, couple of the screws on the exhaust heat shield is corroded and occasionally knocking against the exhaust. A friend suggested pop rivet it back in place, but I don't have the tools for that.. Can the screws be taken out somehow?

Thanks!

Ok don't worry, I found the answer lol, self tapping screws..

I no longer have a heat shield after mine came loose and the Skoda garage decided to cut it off rather than fixing it!!

Watch where you self tapper it, seen plenty of screws go into the boot and into the spare tyre!

Mine has done the same.

I've tried using plastic tie wraps, which temporally work, but they do eventually come loose. I'm not sure how to fix it. I've bought some wire which I was hoping to fix it with that. I am still looking for those special washers that were there to hold it up.

Is this not the usual dissimilar metals problems, and what you need to do is make up a few "repair washers" from a tin can, and fit it between the special washers/nuts and the heat shields.

Happened to me on a previous car, best thing I did was rip the ****er off :) never had any issues either
