FLH ABS Wheel sensor

Featured Replies

Hi,

I need to get one of these as I have the ABS and TCS lights on all the time. VCDS Lite shows the following at the bottom of this post.

Someone has told me about GSF for spare parts and we have one in Swansea. Has anyone used them.? http://www.gsfcarparts.com

We are looking at around £40 for the front left. For some reason the rears are half the price.?

TIA

1 Fault Found:

00283 - ABS Wheel Speed Sensor; Front Left (G47)

003 - Mechanical Failure - Intermittent

I'd take the week off first and checked the wiring and connections. When I was messing with my car last night I found one of the wires had rubbed though the protective layer<br /><br />Sent from my Galaxy S3, not a Crapple!<br /><br /><br />

ABS sensor failure is pretty common. I've had a very mixed experience with GSF parts & certainly wouldn't buy a MAF or a CTS from them. Mechanical parts mostly seem to be ok from GSF, but personally anything electrical I would always buy from TPS. Don't know if there's a TPS in Swansea, but there is in Cardiff.

If you're on a tight budget try Eurocarparts as briskoda members get 25% discount. Use BRISK25 when in their checkout. Pagid f/n/s ABS sensor for a VRS mk 1 works out at £33.75 & is OEM quality.

Thanks for that. The Europarts store here is almost next to the GSF store. :D

Seems we have a TPS up the road from me, whereas the Europarts and GSF are the other side of town. :D

I take it, despite the name, they will sell to the public as well.?

The wiring all seems in order, no nicks or breaks. Here's hoping that a new sensor fixes the problem. :D

It's a bit hit & miss with TPS as to whether they will serve you. If you say your in the trade you'll probably be ok.

I'd go with the Pagid one from Eurocarparts myself. Pagid is really good stuff. Bound to be cheaper than OEM from TPS.

To use the Briskoda discount pretty sure you have to order on line then collect at store quoting your order reference number.

FWIW I rang TPS. they had it in stock and I explained I was not in the trade, and asked would they sell to me. The answer was yes, so fair play to them, £54.54 + VAT

I did want to do it today, but not in that much of a rush, brakes are fine, so have ordered from Euro as the local store did not have them in stock. Yes the discount kicks in when you add it to the checkout.

Thanks for the recommendation of Pagid, main reason I went wth them.

Thanks again to all that replied.

Well the part arrived this week and it has stopped raining enough to have a quick go at it.

No such luck, the thing is stuck in solid. Tried rust remover to loosen it up, no luck. Tried levering out with a screwdriver behind the boss where the fitting screw goes, but afraid I would break it. Why oh why did they decide to put the locking clip on the inside and not the outside where it would be easier to get to.?

Does anyone have any tips for getting this out.? the reason it failed appears to be due to the head being split in two and opened out as you would do to a split pin.

TIA

Hammer and chisel on the front which cuts it off then hammer and cold chisel or bit of metal bar to hit out of the hole. They really do get stuck solid and brute force is the way :D

Also for anyone who doesn't know Pagid ARE OEM parts for all of the VAG group. The best disks and pads to use without upgrading to the likes of ds2500's etc as the are also coated and don't rust

Are you talking about punching it through from the outside of the car.?

So I have to remove the disk and calipers to do that.?

No need to remove the calliper just take wheel off and disk moves far enough to get at it with a chisel, I think. It was a couple of months ago I did mine. But no big problem to take the camper off but as I said irresistible force is needed to overcome so big hammer and a chisel. I literally chopped the front of it off and then whacked it through and out the back.

Nope :D

Weather not the best for doing anything on the car today though

Well I'll be blowed. I tried to break off the split of the head when I was trying to remove it. Did not succeed, but I think I must have closed the split. somewhat So much so, that the light has gone off and since I cleared the fault code, has not reappeared nor are there any fault codes on VCDS lite.

No doubt it will fail sometime in the future, but I'll leave well alone for now.

Does anyone know if we still get a discount from eurocar parts the brisk25 doesn't work?

Cheers

Try it! Big discounts there at the moment anyway.

Promo BRISK25 code will only work when ECP isn't running a discount promotion, which isn't often these days.

Cheers guys
