BP Ultimate Diesel is too expensive...

Featured Replies

BP Ultimate Diesel is too expensive I've decided.

In Gloucester, the price of BP Ultimate Diesel is still 95.9p/l whereas supermarket fuel has dropped to more sensible levels again.

I've run BP Ultimate in my Fabia vRS since 2,483 miles, but have now switched back to Tesco Ordinary diesel at 7,219 miles.

The price of Tesco fuel is only 85.9p/l - a saving of 10p/l which equated to a saving at the pump of

Nice chart. I've never been able to tell any difference with economy either, and performance, so happily use City Diesel from Sainsburys, or whatever. Just not Ultimate.

Thanks - it's a "sheet" file on a Psion 5MX; imported into Excel in order to do a screen dump which was then saved as a gif file.

I'm still on Psion technology in the absence of any suitable replacement, in particular one with a touch-type keyboard - I've recently bought a new Psion; yes they're still being made clandestinely by the company that originally made them for Psion - though I suppose I'll have to migrate to a Palm/Pocket PC with folding keyboard eventually.

We use Shell Extra which is 85.9 if I remember correctly. I've always steered clear of supermarket fuel - It's personal preferance though isn't it.

The Shell station is handy for us just round the corner.

People will generally only change their habits if they have personal experience of problems being generated by the use or not of a particular product. In over thirty years of owning and driving various vehicles I've never had a problem that could be said to emanate from fuelling problems, let alone could be proved as being definitely the result of using supermarket fuel. Hence I have no problems using it.

However I'd advise you to avoid Tesco Cornflakes like the plague :thumbdwn: - they're the closest thing to cardboard they sell!

Well, I've heard of alternative fuel, but thats a new one on me. :P  "How many flakes to the mile, do you get, sir?" :)

I use Shell Diesel Extra pretty much most of the time, but while on holiday I thought I'd try some BP Ultimate (at 96.9p / litre!!!).

My car was very, very smokey through the whole tank. I put a tank of Esso Diesel in when I got home (as I'm still off work on holiday, so can't get to the Shell Station) and the smoke has gone.

I won't be using BP again.

When I enquired with the guys at Jabba they recommended Shell, but that may be based on having one close by too.

Economy with this cheap Tesco diesel is just as good! (though I realise one trip doesn't constitute a scientific study)

Yesterday I left a very congested Brands Hatch to join a congested M25 and after 51 miles the computer was showing 65.1mpg! Even when I got back to Gloucester after about 150 miles driving as quickly as traffic would permit or up to the speed limit the computer was showing 60.5mpg. The trip down to Brands in the morning had been less congested and hence quicker. Neverless the trip for the whole day's motoring showed 56.7mpg and topping up showed a true 54.8mpg achieved.
