Maxiscan fault readers

Featured Replies

I am thinking of buying a fault reader/diagnostic device, and the Maxiscan look to be popular (also Youtube videos to show you how to use one). So I was wondering if anyone on here owns/uses one, and are they a good idea given the complexity of modern cars, and the fact that warning lights coming on (crankshaft sensor seems to be a popular one across a range of cars), could involve a pricey trip to a garage.

Any scanner you buy must support full canbus operation, otherwise you'll not be able to read anything on the Octavia MK2.

I have one by this firm. (That particular model is no longer in production.) It was branded as VAG specific with access to VAG fault codes not just the generic codes. That would be important if buying any code reader!

It works fine to read fault codes and as such I'm happy with it.

It was also supposed to reset the variable servicing indicator. That is less sucessful. There are no instructions and it never "sticks".

Consequently, I wouldn't pay more than fifty for it again. Note, Autel is also branded as Sealy and several other Chinesse brands.
