You gave it to your girlfriend and agreed, knowingly, for her to be the registered keeper on the V5, therefore you gifted it to her.

The Police aren't interested because they see this as a domestic dispute between two warring ex-partners, and to be honest, if you took this to the Small Claims Court I can see a Judge looking at it in the same way.

Give up, walk away, and accept that you have made an expensive mistake.
