VW CADDY WHEEL TRIMS

Featured Replies

Funny that I can never recall having any posts on here from Yeti (E) members - base version with steel wheels - do Skoda actually sell many/any? Wonder why not?

I think you will find that Skoda, like other manufacturers, only have these base models in the range so that they can quote a low price when they say, "starting at £xxxxxx". Try and buy one and the dealer will put you off with talk of really long delays and/or minimal trade in on your current car.

I suppose that is the difference in owners...............to me a wheel is something to put a tyre on and hold the car off the tarmac.

Whether it is steel or alloy during the winter doesn't make any difference to me, plus an alloy is more laible to salt damage and a steel wheel is often more resiliant to a knock or two. If I was fitting steels I spray them silver anyway.

I agree with you Graham - I have painted mine silver! I have mentioned elsewhere that I only have to cover the inner hubs. I found an old 50mm VW cap of some sort and it fitted perfectly. (Part No. N90220501), plain black with no logo. I emailed my son and he discovered that it was a drain plug off the front apron of Golfs built between 1983 and 1992 - he has ordered me 4! - Not quite up to rockhopper's really good looking Caddy now Skoda wheel trims :giggle: .

Oh, the snows gone now Graham - still cold though!

Those are the T5 ones that I got fed up losing, as they don't fit quite right, as the pcd is slightly different.

I have now fitted one hub cap - Is it a bit OTT or too BLINGY?

Looks fine!

Still looks like a 20k car even with the steel wheels.

Fitted my black Steel winter wheels yesterday with black VW caddy caps and stood back to admire the car. Looked really good to me - seems to suit the vehicle fine. Don't miss the alloys at all - especially in winter with the muddy roads round here

Actually, no they're not T5 ones. They are Caddy "dome" trims. The T5 ones have a large VW roundel in the centre, do indeed have a different PCD and drop off at the slightest whiff of an uneven road. There are two types of Caddy trim. Those shown in my photo, (with Volkswagen in small letters and a blank centre) and a smaller "spider" type which covers just the centre plus prominent wheel bolt covers. (Johann uses the spider type).

The Caddy trims are the correct PCD and whilst some forumites say they fit perfectly, I've had to leave the bolt covers on to ensure a perfect fit. It seems that the Caddy's bolts have a slightly longer head on them (to take a "commercial" wheel nut gun) whereas the heads on the Yeti bolts aren't quite long enough to hold the trims firmly. I did 4k miles with them on last winter, they didn't work loose and unlike the T5 trims, I didn't lose any!

For photos of Johann's spider type (albeit modified with Skoda badges), see post #82 here. :sun:

The almost chrome effect will soon go. I would go for a cap which goes over the wheelbolts too, salt and grime can get in behind and make removal difficult.

I spend a bit of winter time in Germany, it seems most cars get steel wheels for winter, big Mercs and BMW included. You just get used to seeing most cars like that. Increasingly. I noticed far more folk still had their winter tyres on in summer. That's the recession for you.

Like lots of silly notions, the "must have alloys" came as a corruption of a good motorsport idea. However, true motorsport wheels are much lighter than the ones peddled to us. Weight, especially the unsprung sort is our dynamic enemy. Without the scientific back up of some scales, i would think the 17" factory alloys on mine are considerably heavier than the 16" spare. Anyone done the decent thing and weighed them?
