Boost question - Little video inside

Featured Replies

is it right that my car when flat out reaches 2 bar boost then drops to 1.6 bar and holds it at that?

not the best video to be fair

Can't really make the video out. Much better logging with VCDS. That way you can see what the ECU is requesting vs actual.

If it is over boosting and has always done it then the map needs altering.

If a standard turbo then no, it wont be healthy for it either. It is most likely the vacuum box playing up.

I wouldn't say it's much of a problem I the car is mapped as they map them to around 1.7 bar. Those gauges aren't the most accurate either. If its standard then its over boosting so could be sticky vanes or a sticking actuator.

1.7 Bar on on which turbo?

Its a brand new turbo people, a garret one (real lol)

The gauges are pretty damn too, brilliantly made with very acurate readings. Theyre not cheap ones lets put it that way lol

Does anyone think i have a problem here then?

I dont know to what bar exactly, as i have a psi rated boost guage tucked in my glove box just to check the turbo now and again, but my remapped car does something similar. Boosts then settles lower.

Standard turbo. They are good for 1.8 bar in my opinion. Well mine is anyway as its a standard turbo which is mapped by shark to boost at 1.7 bar.

If your gauge is accurate, then yes. in my opinion. As mentioned above get some logs done.

A stock turbo should definitely not be pushing more than 1.6 Bar and holding. The PD150 turbo shouldn't even be pushed to 1.8 Bar (maybe in midrange by a good tuner).

But... this is just my humble opinion

Someone is always going to have a different opinion to someone else. I've based my opinion on what I've read on this forum and from the fact I have a gauge in my car that does the same as the ops but sits at 1.7bar after the over boost. I've run this map and a gauge at the same limits as the op and its still fine after a year and 20000 miles.

It could be the gauges in general are inaccurate aswell

My opinions based on hands on experience, and I would log boost with VCDS and compare them to what you seeing on the gauge.

If its mapped by derv doctor then yes you have a problem lol love the gauges tho, just wish they lit up green lol you have a link?

If it a standard gt1749va and the readings are accurate then you have an issue either mechanical or software. Has the actuator been setup correctly?

1.7bar plus on a standard turbo is asking for trouble. That's hybrid boost. 20k miles isn't a lot. At that pressure I'd be extremely surprised if its even on the compressor map (no point looking for the maps as their top secret). Love to see what the EMP is lol.

1.55/1.6bar is more like it but with it dropping as the revs rise.

Oh god dont say that, he was going on like his are **** hot maps and a bad remap was the reason my turbo went bang lol. have you had problems pal??

And they light up green and white pal. Ive got mine green when ignition is on and white when headlights are illuminated (to go with stereo as its all in the centre) You can change em round so its the opposite which i had at first so green when lights are on but didn't look right at night with the stereo

the software in your car is set at 1.55 bar boost, but you now have a PD150 turbo on there that darkside fitted as the new pd130 one was damaged by the courier they told me. When the car left me it ran 1.65 boost spike with 1.55 held

Darkside havnt put a new turbo on it. Just sent off the one u provided to get rebuilt?

Damaged by the courier? First ive heard?

They told me they sent the PD130 one away and it got damaged on getting it back, so they put a 150pd one they had on the shelf on it. To save time, not sure if it was a new unit or what. Bring it up and I will take a gander at it.
