Not the usual vRS mudflap question

Featured Replies

Hi

Fitted some front and rear mud flaps to my vRS at the weekend.

Leaving aside the issue of whether they fit or not (been covered many times before).

The underside of the rear bumber is like a teenagers chin! No amout of polishing is removing all of the dings.

Do you think I would be ok using something like 2000 grit wet and dry with plenty of soapy water and then a good polish afterwards?

Or any other suggestions that I could use to get rid of the large number of I assume stone impacts on the underside of the bumber.

Cheers

Mark

Are you sure they're stone chips, can you feel the impression with your finger nail? If you're in any doubt I'd be keen to try something like Tardis on the area to ensure that they weren't tar or other detritus marks, tar can be an absoute beggar to get off which is where Tardis comes in to it's own.

If they are dings then yes, you can flat down with wet and dry but then you'd need a polishing machine and ideally before you start a paint depth gauge to make sure that there's enough paint so as you can bring the colour back.

If you fancy a trip up Clitheroe way I have some Tardis you could try along with a plethora of other stuff too.

And not 2000 grade really better 2500 or 3000 with plenty of soapy water

I'd be careful using anything to smooth it out - when I removed my rear mudflaps the paint flaked off! I'd clean and polish then add some clear Ventureshield or similar to prevent any further damage.

The underside of the rear bumper on my vRS is the same. Lots and lots of stone chips and this is with the mudflaps fitted.

The paint is vulnerable around that area too, I also noticed that when I was aligning up the flaps to the bumper each time I pulled them off after checking the fitment some paint came off the inner lip of the bumper!

I am also slightly disappointed with the effectiveness of the flaps, there ends up being as much dirt behind them as before, except the first inch directly after the flaps.
