Is my DMF knackered?

Featured Replies

If I accelerate hard from about 50mph I get a judder. It feels like something is slipping then gripping or someone is blipping the brake as I accelerate.

Had it in my local garage for a look. They took it for a test drive, confirmed the problem but they couldn't figure it out and suggested a specialist but they did say the engine is fine, as are the drive shafts and clutch. They didn't charge me for this and I appreciate the honesty rather than them messing about on a trail and error basis.

Reading though here there is much discussion of the DMF failure.

The car is a 55 plate VRs, standard tune. 69K on the clock. and yes I do have a naughty habit of accerating briskly from about 60mph in 5th or 6th.

So what do you think? Is it the DMF or is there something else that could be causing it?

Going to have bread and water for my dinner because I think this might be expensive

Sounds like DMF judder mine only did it once I had it mapped. Cost well it all depends you could pick a standard LUK DMF for ~£250ish it all depends what you class as expensive

Full throttle in high gears will knacker your dmf alright.

Doesn't matter if its mapped or not.

The damage just happens faster on a mapped car.

You should stop this naughty habit before it costs you £7-900

Methinks it's too bloody late and it's going to cost me.

Once it's fixed though I will have to remember to use more revs!

Can anyone recommend a good garage to do me DMF, if that's the problem, somewhere near Durham?

What!? I do this, but I thought as long as you don't boot it under 2k rpm you won't damage your DMF?

Is there any point you can give these car full throttle?

I don't go above a quarter throttle until up to working temp, or above 2000 rpm and now you can't go in high gears either without knack erring something?

Didn't realise my baby was this fussy :-p

Don't boot it before the boost kicks in under 2k RPM and no labouring the engine like sitting 5th/6th gear under 2k RPM then trying to give it some welly, I know it will pull from that low but it won't be doing the clutch and DMF any good at all.
