high emmisions

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I am having trouble with my car at the minute (octy 1, 1.8t 4x4). It went for MOT a few weeks back and all was well apart from sky high 'CO' emmisions (over 6, sould be less than 0.2 i think).

I have vagcom and there are no fault codes apart from SAI and valve deletes. afm reading was off so that has been changed (genuine) as has cts and lambda sensor (genuine).

Fuel economy has just about disappeared into american v8 territory as on a 2 hour run at 70mph on the motorway i couldn't even get it into the 30's mpg.

Any ideas??

High CO (carbon monoxide) is down to the mixture being to rich (way to rich in your case)

If the HC (Hydro carbons - Unburnt fuel) were there or there abouts it means that there isnt an combustion problem.

things to check on live block data

1.Coolant temp - If the ECU reads the engine is cold it will richen the mixture

2.Intake air temp - If the ECU reads the air is cold it will richen the mixture (this maybe part of the MAF sensor)

3.Fuel pressure could be to high (fuel pressure regulator?)

Other things could be (clutching at straws)

Air filter blocked or partially blocked

Throttle body fault (including position sensor)

MAP sensor fault (if fitted)

Hi, thanks for reply.

Maf has been replaced, believe there is a temp sensor in it?? there is also one in the inlet manifold i believe?? Does this have a meas block on vagcom??

Does fuel pressure have a meas block also?? I replaced the spark plugs also as a precaution and the 'burn' looks clean on the old plugs (not 'sooty'), i'm not getting any missfires logged either.

I will do a TB calibration and see if that helps, sure i can find the meas block for the tps so will have a look at that.

I think i have a spare MAP sensor somewhere so is an option to change.

Will the 'infamous' pancake pipe issues cause this i wonder??? (not had a physical look at it but may be worth it)??

J.
