VRS vs mini cooper-s vs vectra GSI

Featured Replies

Got two cars now i want to know how my new VRS is going to compare

VRS = Green filter,DV30,Revo 4bar remap and fuel regulator

i know a mini cooper-s is better on the bends and has a quicker 0-60 but its only 170 odd bhp how will 220+ vrs do in a strait line

but the vectra GSI dont know much about these

other than it is a 2.5 v6 and about 200 bhp

anybody know much or had dealings with either of these

well I know these facts.. the fifth gear race track with tiff driving. my old C2 GT was faster round there than a mini cooper-s (and only had 110 bhp, but great handling and brakes) the standard furby is two seconds faster round the track than a mini cooper (no -s-) so your modded one should kill the "s" I'd also say the cooper-s would beat the vectra (haven't seen figures for this one.. guessing) because although the vectra is fast, it handles like poo! so I'd go for your modded furby against them all!

I think he has an Octy. ;)

Against the Vectra, close run thing but you'll have the edge.

Fabia vRS? 220bhp? You'll rape the Cooper S & the GSI.

Octavia vRS? 220bhp? You'll still rape the Cooper S & the GSI, weight and horsepower tells all :D

Doesn't the Vectra have longer gearing so it'll be more of a match top-end? :D

Chris

Well..

I had a 3.0MV6 Omega that was 200bhp, and it had a top speed of 260kmph, and the Omega was definitely a faster car than the Vectra, even though it only had 4 gears

The Octavia vRS standard can do a top of 260+kmph, a friend of mine with an Octy vRS standard claimed a 265kmph top speed with his ride.

So if we add another 40bhp, what would the final output be? :D

Vauxhall claim a top speed of 154mph for the Vectra and Skoda claim a top speed of 146mph for the Octy. Chipping the Octy will probably mean that under the same conditions the cars will be about equal..... :D

Chris

Wow..pretty quick car the Vectra...then again its a v6 200bhp car...........

:D

Standard Octy will not do 265 kmh, especially with your heat. Sorry.

Bro, don't tell me sorry. I pass on a claim that was passed on me, I don't make up my own figures.

Urm, book top speed is just over 140 - gaining an extra 25 mph would take some doing for a standard car, even modded ones are pushed to get that.

IIRC the speedo only goes to 160 (may be different on a kph car I admit) so the 165 is, shal we say, optomistic ;) Oh and I was apologising for myself, as I may have come across a tad harsh. :)

Wanna explain your last point? I am genuinely interested and don't understand it.

Surely top speed is dictated by gearing, not power. All more power does is let you achieve your maximum speed against drag and friction losses. If your standard car can already hit the limiter in top gear, adding more power just gets you there quicker.

but what if your car won't hit the limiter in top? i know my 4x4 wouldn't, allegedly

Then you need more power, agreed. My point was just that once you've got the power to get there, more power won't make you go any faster.

Partly true Nick, but, we are talking an Octy here and strangely enough I actually remember what mine was like, vanilla and modded. The jump from 145 (being generous) to 165 is pretty big and would need something special. IIRC drag increases as a square of velocity so to make that leap you need a bit more than the standard power.

I was querying how it being warmer actually made a car faster (ie gave it more power) but I see that bit has been edited now.

Which point???

We get the cars here with KM dials, and the Tavia has a dial-top of 270kmph. The guy who owns the only black one here said he reached 265. Don't know man...seems a lot for 1.8 180bhp, but that's what he told me...either he is exaggerating or he's being real.

After a certain point you'll need a huge gain in power to overcome aerodynamic drag...I think.

Oh THAT part? :D

Well, it's a known fact that humid conditions decrease the performance of a car. But as far as heat goes, it does not affect the performance of a car, especially climatized models like the ones we get here. The models you have over there would fail if you were to bring it without climatizing it.

You said that heat didn't make a difference to the performance of a car but that humidity did. I was just questioning how it being hot didn't detract from a car's performance that's all.

His speedo may have read 265 (we had this debate before, eh Benjie ;) ) but that is wildly optomistic for a standard car.

IIRC some members (albeit with highly modified cars) have seen speeds well over the book maximum, although that may have included modified gearing. So it is possible...

What's the top speed of the taxi then Jon? :D

105 mph :D

105 mph :D

Is that going to a fare's destination? :D

Nah, blatting ;) it to get to the fare before my rivals :D

How is a car climitized?

Are you sure heat doesn't affect performance? Surely high air temp is less dense than cold air...giving less power?

I'm sure you can turn boost down to take temp into consideration and allow it to run better but, it woul dof course be making less power due to reduced boost.

Just interested. :)

245 mph :D

 Makes that McClaren look rubbish
