VRS vs mini cooper-s vs vectra GSI

Featured Replies

standard Vectra GSi was 197bhp IIRC, handling wasnt the best and the 0-60 of the 24valve was about the same as the vRS.

a 220bhp vRS is going to whoop the GSi and cooper-s to 100mph and leave the GSi to the top end of 150mph, they would probably top out about the same but the vRS is going to be in the distance by the time the GSi gets there.

the heat will affect performance, hey presto FMIC's and water spray to keep heat down.

i know what my speedo said so nah nah nah nah nah :P

You said that heat didn't make a difference to the performance of a car...

It doesn't. Especially here. The dealers here import climatized models.

Oooh...as far as taxis go, there is ONE cab here...a Toyota Cressida...with a 550bhp Supra engine transplant....

How is a car climitized?

Are you sure heat doesn't affect performance? Surely high air temp is less dense than cold air...giving less power?

I'm sure you can turn boost down to take temp into consideration and allow it to run better but' date=' it woul dof course be making less power due to reduced boost.

Just interested. :)[/quote']

What is the highest the temperature can get to in London? 35 degrees celsius?

Here we hit 50 degrees plus. Very hot. So the cars are modified for the Middle East to be able to withstand the heat. I don't know how they do it, but I do know that Omega I had would overheat quite so often (97 model) because it was the first model to come out here and it wasn't modified to withstand the heat.

Another example...when I got my Fabia, the battery died within the first three months, and I was using it everyday. The reason was the insulation and excess covering of the battery, which is made to withstand the COLD in Europe...it got too hot in there...so my dealer modified it for me, and for the past 2 years I've been running the same battery.

Agreed...the cars are modified to withstand the ambient temperature....but that doesn't explain how high inlet air temps won't affect performance.

I doubt...for the Octavia RS...whether FMIC and water sprays are fitted to bring inlet temp downs and maintain power and performance of RS' running in Euro climate. I would imagine coolant system is upgraded somehow but this is to keep engine operating temps acceptable not the air going in for combustion.

Like I say just interested in how performance is maintaind in such high ambent temperatures.

You'll have to check that ou with a mechanic who really knows his stuff...

You know something, thinking all you guys are in England and stuff...you'd really enjoy the car scene here...:)
