Best diesel engine for Yeti

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm new to the forum. Don't have a Sloda yet but just about to order a new Yeti. Not sure which engine to choose. Around £700 difference between 140ps and 170 ps, but doesn't look to be a great lift in performance. Is it worth the extra? I do tow a trailer regularly. Any view welcome

In a word "yes"....

Or you could always buy the 140 and get it remapped to beyond 170

Hi and welcome aboard.

If i was going to use the car for towing i would go for the 170.

+1. There are other differences, such as larger front brake discs on the 170,different turbo, marginally better fuel consumption, and of course quicker.

Hello and welcome Bowdie

I concur with the others; go for the 170

Unless you want DSG, in which case it has to be the 140.

Thanks guys. Things took a turn for the worse today when I went to the retailer to be told that the Jan13 price hike was effective from yesterday!!

:wonder: surely that's a November 5th Price hike then, I'd advise that you try another dealer as it sounds like that one doesn't really want your business.

140 Yeti is good and only choice if you want diesel auto (which hurts economy) but 170 is quicker and as mentioned has noticably better brakes.

Ignore remapping unless you plan to do it and not worry about warranty issues.

Sure you can remap a 140 to 170 but a 170 will map to 200 as it has a better turbo. Plus you'll still be able to stop with the bigger brakes. :)

+1 for the 170.

I test drove the 140 and that seemed plenty quick enough (particularly coming from a 110 TDi Octy) but I still went for the 170 and the extra margin it gives. I don't tend to push it that often, but like to overtake quickly if needed, and the 170 has let me do that safely in situations I wouldn't have attempted in the Octy. Having driven both it would only be the requirement of an auto that would make me pick the 140.

It's true that DSG hurts economy but in the real world it's only about 1 - 2 mpg, at least in my experience.
