Removing accelerator pedal?

Featured Replies

As above, does anyone know how to remove the accelerator pedal in a 2006 Octavia?

I've tried the search function, but either no one has asked before or it's not working on my phone :-(

Any help appreciated

Cheers

Hmmmm cheers mate, I'm sure I can make something to use.

Looks like a job for the weekend though, not one to do on the rank between jobs lol

Nah, piece of p1$$ as long as you have torx bits, you'll be fine. Just a couple of bolts, max, covered by some obvious plastic pop-out plates and a connector with a small catch on that pops out and it's off. I worked it out in about 10 minutes when I took my carpets out.

Not sure what that special tool thing is, I never needed it on my 08 model. Just came off once i'd undone the bolt/s!

Thanks mate, I thought it might be something I could do in 5 mins between jobs.

But I'll have a proper look at it sat afternoon or Sunday morning.

Don't wanna end up stuck on the rank with no accelerator pedal lol

Honestly, if you DID have a look at it, all that connects it is the bolt/s and that electrical connector, so once you'd got your head around it (which would be two seconds after you've done each individual bit), you'd be able to stick it all back together again within a minute.

I was amazed at how basic it was and thought it was brilliant that I could take the thing off completely!

Having said that, if you DO do it at home, you can give it a good clean: trust me, regardless of how much you clean your car, the amount of cr@p in the joints and the bits you don't see is quite impressive! Depends what you're taking it off for... so why are you taking it off??

I'm taking it off cos I have a set of Vrs ones to go on :-D

I can well believe you about the amount of bits and muck that's there, just had a quick little look with a torch round the back of the pedal and its filthy!!

Ah, aren't they some sort of tarty silver race pedal type affair? When you've done it, let me know whether there's any anomalies, like your foot slipping off the metal more or summat randomly different to the normal one. Might do it myself if it feel no different.

Aren't the other pedals metal too though? How are you gonna change them as well?

Yeah mate, very tarty and silver lol.

I just spotted them for a reasonable price and thought I'd give them a go, if I hate them I'll sell them on.

The clutch and brake ones just pull off, they are attached to the rubber boot.

Took 1min to do them

Just found this on another thread. If you look at post #12 it shows you what's what.

Slightly disconcertingly, it shows what the 'special tool' is for and although mine came off without it, i'm now curious as to whether my clips are now loose or weakened cos it didn't take much to release those two clips from the metal posts underneath! Got to admit, it hardly took any effort to pull it away from the floor, so I can't imagine it damaged anything particularly. Might be worth using a couple of long thin screwdrivers or something to do it PROPERLY, but as I said, I had no trouble getting it off the floor!

On another thread, someone said they broke their clips by pulling it, but if i've done that to mine, nothing's moving around at all, so who knows?!

So it was you who bought them in the end :)

As said, looks straightforward to swap. I'll keep my eye out for another set - or let me know if you don't like them!

Looks **** easy "famous last words"

Will take a few tools out with me in the morning and if a get a quiet spell will give it a go.

Hold on, I thought I casually threw my hat in the ring if he didn't like them in post #8??!! :finger:

Nah, you're okay, wardy's helped me with a few tech things before, and i'm not sure I want them yet. :)

Haha so you did mate, but it was so casually I missed it until I re-read it :-)

All fitted now, thanks to everyone for help.

Bit of a pain in the arse to do, but would have been easier if I didn't do it by torchlight from iPhone lol

Can't put a pic up til tomorrow, cos the footwell is just unbelievably dirty :-(

Glad you're sorted. Yes, probably best not to do it in the dark :D

  • 1 year later...

Sorry to dig up this old thread but having looked at the link in post 2 it mentions after replacing the throttle pedal that the ECU needs to be adapted???

I was under the impression that the pedal would just be a straight swap.... Is this not the case then?
