VRS exhaust rear box hanger

Featured Replies

Hi. First time posting.

Despite my VRS having covered 150k miles....132k miles by me....the exhaust is in good shape. Apart from one thing.

Rust has caused the metal hanger (that attaches the rear box to the rubber rear exhaust hanger) to detach itself from the rear box. Thought it might be weldable, but my local welder says no.

Any ideas for reattaching?

I don't want to have to buy a new exhaust as the car's beginning to look tired and have some problems that will make it uneconomic to repair. So planning to drive it until it's MOT, sell it as parts, then get another one!

Thanks in advance.

P.S. Best car I've ever had:) 132k miles of fast trouble free driving all over the UK, europe...and the traffic clogged south east. Still on original clutch, although I think that's beginning to go.

Bodge by using thick wire around the pipes upto the backbox hangar.

Is there scope to bolt the bracket onto the lip of the exhaust box for a better repair?

Thanks for swift reply.

Thought about using thick wire onto the backbox hanger but looks like it will pull it over to the left and scrape the rear bodywork.

Lip of the box has rusted and come away with the bracket.

I bet a specialist exhaust place would be able to knock something up. Perhaps use the lip over the other side.

Probably. Will visit one when I have a chance.

Will just have to avoid speed bumps until I can!

I've had the same issue, I put a u clamp round the hanger and pipe of the exhaust, that has worked a treat, hope that helps with getting yours sorted

Maybe a pic of what youve done may help?

Hi buddy there's nothing that can't be welded if its made out of metal ... Where abouts in the uk are you ? If your local I could possibly help you out

Yeah sure, I'll sort one out for you so you can see what I mean

Hope this helps

Ahhh nice idea!

I used a jubilee clip to start with, that worked fine to but I found this clamp at work and put it to use instead of the jubilee clip due to it bein much heavier quality

Im lucky mine is OK for now but Ill remember that for when it does.

Thanks f2evotomo,

Clamp has done the trick. Not pretty but it works.

Exhaust and hanger don't seem to line up as well as in your pics and as is suspected it has pulled the exhaust over to the left and twisted the hanger a bit....but it's not catching on anything so all ok.

glad you got yours sorted snapper, my exhaust has never lined up tbh, i know the hanger is part of the issue but i'm not convinced thats the complete reason. Like you say they i have no issues with hitting though so happy with that.
