Growl at low RPM ?

Featured Replies

Since I've had my 1.9 PD Octavia, I have noticed that its a bit "growly" at low rpm - its not the quietest and smoothest diesel I have owned, but this is noticeable when you take your foot off on the overun, as it passes through low rpm you get this growl. Likewise on throttling up. Maybe an intake noise?

Do they all do this? Is it normal? Anyone else have this?

sounds like the filter box may not be connected correctly, or a pipe off, worth checking all is tight. is the filter clean/new?

My PD140 growls at low revs when cold but the growl is definitely coming out of the exhaust. Seems to quieten down once warmed up.

Mine did so I noticed it last year when the temp dropped way down I have a thread on it somewhere. Took it to dealers and they said it was perfectly normal.

Is this the sound? If so more reading at my old thread below: (wow this was almost a year ago seems like yesterday, time flies when your not having fun)

Hmm interesting, except mine isn't a gushing sound.

Its sounds more like an old man snoring, or a bad tempered bulldog. :giggle:

Ah well probably normal.

Oh well that's understandable living in Bournemouth. You would not allow something as obtuse and common as growling. We common folk living "up north" we 'av to pt wit bad man'us of us cars tha nos.

Wi con only dreeem of tut quiet and tut smooooth.

The DMF is getting a little noisy on my PD170, it is most noticeable on the over run after taking my foot of the accelerator when crawling along in first gear.

I woud describe the noise as similar to a growl.

Actually come to think of it before I had the SMF conversion the DMF fitted before used to growl and chatter as Silver explained and shake the engine like mad.

It's a PD - It is! Just learn to love it. It took me a while with my 05 Furby... PD's think they are transit vans until allowed out of the cage.

I miss that car. http://www.informal-it.co.uk/b3ta/wingroof.jpg and the way she sounded when cold - only ever content when being treated hard. like my women; with sugar. Or something.

Thats it. Its going, I've had enough !

Now you've done it Silver, you've broken flyerphil.

Stick with it a bit longer flyerphil it may not be as bad ad all that.

Sorry!

It is worth saying that I do 30K a year and it hasn't got any worse over the last 12 months now I've learnt how to preserve it.

I'm hoping that it'll do me another few years without it needing to be looked at.
