Fabia to Citigo

Fair comment, the vat free offer certainly makes the GL a good buy, Mmmm Ah well I have a bit of time to see how thing develop! and can honestly say I won't have any issues about being too tall, I was never big but think I've shrunk at least another inch in my dotage! :giggle:

Well, picked mine up today!

I never got a chance to drive it on the motorway when testing, but doesn't it cruise quietly ! You can have all the fun of the engine note when accelerating, then it all just goes away when you are holding speed. Stable as a rock too.

Now I've tried the 75hp engine, I agree with Bossfox, there's no real difference until you are above 4000prm where it holds its power better. Handles like a go-kart :giggle:

Hi Mike, yes...please give us a running commentary on your ownership. Glad you like the '75' engine. It is all showing good promise for me so far. I'm really looking forward to going over one with a fine tooth comb and trying one out. It's very likely it will be my next car. Incidentally, I'm 6'2" tall. Some of you mention the driving position is good. What do you reckon about my size though? Do I need surgery to have the old pins shortened?

Your legs will be fine, the problem you may have is the lack of reach adjust on the wheel. I would like to have the wheel a little closer to me, but it's not uncomfortable where it is.

yep, when i was comparing the top of the range citigo greentech with no offers to the greenline II, there was only about £1500 difference in cost, if there was no offer on the GL II then i would not have been able to afford it so i would have been looking at the citigo

the economics depend on the offers at any particular time

if you are looking at only doing 8-10k then a diesel with dpf is probably not for you

that means as you say a something like a 1.2tsi/htp fabia, with any offer like no vat prices are pretty much identical

you could even get a 1.2tsi with se specfor only a few hundred extra

so comes down to difference in spec, space and economy

space, probably the biggest difference, fabia is 5 seat, citigo only 4 seat (do you need the extra seat?)

spec a few nice to haves but nothing most people can live without

economy,

fabia 1.2 12v 69ps 0-62 14.9, combined mpg 51.4

fabia 1.2 tsi 86ps 0-62 11.7 combined mpg 54.3

citigo 1.0 mpi 60ps 0-62 14.4 combined mpg 62.8

citigo 1.0 mpi 75ps 0-62 13.2 combined mpg 67.3

things people have noticed, lack of sound insulation, a few water leaks, whines, limited seat adjustments all teething issues as across all VAG group

so do you want a newer model sharper looking car with a smaller size, easier to park, better all round visibility (from my look / sitting in one) newer engine technology with better mpg lower running costs but with common issues still appearing

or an older (some may say dated look as facelift due) proven technology, better power, more flexible seating / luggage space, list of common issues all known and fixes easy

depends on what you want to use it for and what you want from the car

Estate Man, it depends on your body proportions...

I am an inch taller with long legs and I do find the steering wheel a little to far away.

So I sit closer, which means a lack of under thigh support.

We are very lucky, as we have a Fabia 1.2 TSI 86bhp and a Citigo SE 1.0. We expected a much bigger difference than we have actually found. Room in the front is virtually identical, but rear seats and boot are much smaller in the Citigo. Both are fun to drive, the Fabia because of its ace turbo and the Citigo because it handles like a very refined go-kart.

My wife prefers the nipper because its steering is that bit lighter. If just the two of us are going anywhere we use the nipper, but if we have any more passengers we use the Fabia.

Both cars are fantastic (as I'm sure most of you already know by now!)

We're luck enough to have both a Citigo and a Fabia Greenline II:

I'd also agree with the comments on the steering wheel adjustment on the Citigo -I'm 6' so not especially tall or short, however I'd like the wheel a little closer, it's not uncomfortable -just not ideal, but I find the seats more comfortable than my Fabia. The Greenline II has a pretty good spec. with no options. The plastic steering wheel and handbrake are a bit 'low rent' though

I got my Fabia on the 0% No VAT offer and it was about £400 more than the Citigo 75 we bought with most of the options, however the Citigo is on a PCP so will cost more eventually. Both are damn god cars in my opinion -the Fabia's done nearly 30k miles. Early days for the Citigo but so far so good.

Edited due to typo -'no one knows who they were or what they were doing'

Agreed on the seats, I am finding the Citigo's to be more comfy and have better side support.

Thanks Boss, I'm normally proportioned so I'm told!! I guess I probably be ok but I'll soon see as I will be taking one for a spin soon.
