Rear door lock - fixable?

Featured Replies

My driver's side rear door lock has been a bit intermittent lately.

It's sticking by the sound of it.

get it rplaced while you can still open it is my advice. My Fabia's stuck dead one day, been a bitch to try and sort ever since what with trying to get the door card off a shut door. I'll have to grind out the lock now, or smash it apart somehow. Don't leave it like I did is all I'm sayin' :(

My nearside rear keeps going through short spells of not having the power to unlock. Doesn't appear to be catching though, on inspection, just weak.

doubt you will be able to grind it out due to lack of access. depending which door it is?

have done 2 fabia doors, you can remove the door card without damage (search my previous posts for info) then literally grapple/yank/manhandle the mechanism out.

make sure you have your replacement to go in though or you wont be able to lock/close the door!

Sure is common, they've run out of them in the country at the moment!

Can do one for $285 incl, but it's a week away from Sinagpore.

Ouch ! That's about 145 quid.

get them on ebay for around 70, send to your family who can then post to you, or get a secondhand one and tak the risk that it might go again

go new dude, whats the point of taking a risk for 60% of the cost of new

see its not bad to do at all.

it is when the bloody door's locked :wall: Still, managed to sort mine last week aswell, had to take a long flat bladed screwdriver, a cold chisel and a hammer! Smashed through the casing to disable mangle the cog and the door opened, allowing me to change it :whew:
