Tyre Pressure Sensors

Featured Replies

Hi all just a quick question for those running aftermarket alloy wheels is it possible to swap the tyre pressure sensors over from the standard alloys to retain this feature?

There isn't any sensors on the wheels.

It works off the abs system and the number of rotations on a wheel compared to the rest. Its a rubbish system which doesn't work on low profile tyres until its too late.

How can you tell if you have this option pls??

Button near ASR/traction control of centre console to reset it..

Ok ta I don't have a button so not got it.

How well does it work on standard 15" wheels?

Ok thanks that helps I wasn't sure if there was wireless sensor on valves as I've seen before, mine seems to work ok mine detected a drop down to 29 from 34.

Mines crap as well, don't work as my tyre pressure drops from around 35 to 28 over the space of 3-4 months without any detection.

I don't bother with it anymore.

You could always check your tyres within that three or four month period of course . . . :-) just a thought. Mine does give some false alarms but has worked well.

Only supposed to register quick drops in pressure, ie punctures, but it's the single thing I didn't spec as it seems a bit pants and loads of people seemed to have trouble with it.

Thought it was like the Renault one which tells you individual pressures onscreen, but it isn't so it was of no use to me.

What I find really odd is that the designers thought that this function deserved its own button. A single use button in a prime location that will probably never be used in the life of the car.

Single use? You reset it every time you change your pressures.

I had my alloys refurbed the other week, wheels off the car, tyres off the wheels, all back on and no light.

I'm guessing the pressures on the tyres must have been similar to what they were before....

That makes more sense. Although I thought it only needed reseting when there is a big change in pressures, not just small top ups.

I only use mine when it sets off a waning - often once I've got new tyres (as the new rolling radius throws an error).

It's a basic system. Better than nothing but you wouldn't rely on it, so best to check pressures regularly

Depends i adjusted my pressures today (more PSI) took 50 miles for it to register forgot to reset.

This. Though recently when my tyre nearly came off the rim - the sensor didn't light up at all! I guess because it uses the ABS system, you have to be travelling fairly quickly .

On a motorway, if the light comes on, it's a pretty good idea to slowly pull up and check - in this regard it's pretty good; as on run flats or low profiles you may have little indication that a tyre is dangerously low pressure when hammering along in a straight line.

It worked on my wifes Fabia when she had a puncture

It's a basic system most people don't set there tyre pressures correctly and just assume it's a fault on the car. Set your tyre pressures from cold and reset it in the car.

Indeed

oh it worked on mine, after the sidewall had been shredded!
