Small scratches on boot sill - best way to remove them.

Featured Replies

New Octavia MK2 Black - been looking after it best l can, then someone puts a muddy bag on my sill and it scratches through to the white paint work. Obviously a sill protector would have helped. Best ways to make it smart again, quick clean and wax and it's still there. I wish the under coat they use was the same colour as the overcoat!

If the scratching is not over too wide an area the easiest fix is to fit a black sill protector, which should hide the damage. Not cheap but cheaper than a re-spray.

Any other ideas? I did think about adding a sill protector but they seem expensive for what they are.

It depends on how deep/wide the scratches are. If they're not too bad using something like Autoglym Paint Renovator followed by Autoglym Super Resin Polish will help - that combination did a very good job on scratches on my Corrida Red Fabia, and they had gone down to the white primer.

Can you get a picture up? It's difficult to provide advice without seeing how bad it looks.

Has it gone through the clear coat? Can you feel the scratches with your finger nail?

Are your sure its not just scratched the clearcoat, which on a black car would look white.

Not sure how you would tell? You can certainly feel the scratches, and it looks white-ish below. Can post some pics when I get chance.

Hope the paint is too soft, as I saw what did the damage, and not exactly harsh. I have also noticed some fine hair line scratches along the whole sill, perhaps where I have tried to clean of some muck, not using a proper cleaning process - which I am trying to stick to and looking good on the rest of the car... I am OCD when it comes to new cars and marks on them - Sad!

I may go for the sill protector option, as I can see it getting lots of abuse in that area, already put sill protectors on the rear passenger doors.

A good sill protector may cost some money but it would have saved you the cost of a respray.

A guy at work has a black Octavia Greenline, he rubbed it up against a pillar in an underground carpark and scraped the paint down to the plastic - which is white!

Understand what u r saying silver, in hind sight I would have ordered one.

So now thinking do I make an effort to fix it with various treatments, buts it's only a few months old so liable to more damage.

Or pay 50 and bite the bullet and forget about it.

How do these plastic guards look, does.the plastic fade?

Bit the bullet and bought a protector, it's going to get abuse from other people and items being loaded in and out.

Above mentioned it could be the clear coat was possibly scratched, how can you tell, and if it's clear coat what is the correct solution. All I can say is u can feel the scratch and it's white underneath, its not large or deep. As also stated some minor surface scratches along top if the bumper, they are not through to the white, any ideas on these. I have noticed after cleaning the car quite a bit of water can sit in this area, and perhaps also washes a lot of dirt into the area.

Also picked up 1 or 2 stone chips on lower front bumper, is skoda (Octavia) paint easily damaged. Rest looks good, and polished once already.

Chip-Ex has a sales on just now, but occasionally has a deal on other forums saving about 25% from memory when they only did the larger sized kit.
