Boot sill protector foil - fitting / use views please.

Featured Replies

Has anyone fitted and used the Skoda accessory part no KDX 620 001 ( or similar) which is the "covering foil for the rear bumper".

I have a Elegance estate which has the raised boot floor and the instructions for the above, appear to suggest that the protector foil, when fitted, sits on top of the spare wheel.

This means in fact, that to use it, necessities the lifting of the lower boot cover then the raised boot cover before the protector can be unfolded to be used.

Also the actual material is quite inflexible so I'm not sure that it will sit nicely over the bumper when in use.

Any comments will be appreciated.

Thanks.

The foil will sit under the boot floor where it anchors, but is inconvenient. I bought one as I have dogs, and it just got in the way as I had to leave it on top ready for pulling into position before the dogs jumped out - they invariably stood on it in anticipation, and would sit on it sliding about during transit.

They are brittle and don't fold easily especially when new. After my first one cracked, I fitted another which then sprung into the catch as the tailgate was closing for the first time. It cracked in a sharp/dangerous way. My £8 was rewarded by venting my anger ripping the bloody thing to bits - and then recycling it for the feel good factor.

Probably OK if you are careful and don't have dogs where an old blanket or hi-viz jacket work well.

Thanks Jeeves for your response.

You confirmed more or less what I thought.

I don't have a dog but do pick up my Daughter's Lab on occasions which was the main reason for "investing" in this protector.

I will probably fit it to give it a try and if not happy will use blanket or similar as you suggest.

I had a boot sill protector foil but found it inconvenient and annoying to use, so I removed it.

The foil which folds out and drapes over the bumper to protect it. I have amended my earlier post to remove any ambiguity in what I was referring to.

I use the genuine volvo one from my previous V70. Fits perfectly - like it was made for the Octy - and is flexible and robust.

Sarge.

If you have a dirty/damp bumper, the protector picks this up potentially crushing it into your paint in the process. Unless its cleaned you'll be reapplying that same grit again later. If you're bringing your dog back home, there's normally not a lot of opportunity to clean the protector sufficiently.

My Scout bumper's not painted conventionally and did consider applying some Paint Shield film but its too shiny. I've gone down the Milotec bumper guard route which, whilst looking good, is only surface painted - and so needs protecting (with my hi-viz jacket of course)!

Thanks Guys for all your comments, views and suggestions.

Much apprieciated

I had the top of my rear bumper covered when I had my Ventureshield fitted in the showroom. Still looks new.

I have a moulded one fitted to my Octavia, purchased from ebay. fitted like a glove and even protects just over the lip (about 1cm) but does not intrude on the parking sensors. and for 45 quid worth every penny!

That looks gash. I have the fabric waterproof Skoda liner with the fold out flap and it's brilliant. Can't find it right now, but I've mentioned it a few times with a part number if you trawl for it on here.

My own diy boot/bumper protector . Made from the material you see on the sides of lorries / curtain side trailers

Not the prettiest, but certainly looks functional.

Yep ...... A bit like myself

Great when taking the (usually leaking) bags of garden waste ( that my other half seems to be able to produce at an alarming rate ) to the tip

I have a big but quite thin rubber mat in mine that i put under the boot floor and the remainder is used to pop out of 5he boot and over the bumper if putting in and out anything likely to cause damage. I fold it back in when done.

Proves quite useful also if carting around a big load as can fold the flap back over the boot content and prevents the inner boot plastics from getting scratched to **** too.

I had a moulded OEM Skoda boot lip protector fitted on my Fabia after my dog started hammering the thing, it actually looked better with it on than without; the Octavia one is pretty ugly IMO by comparison so wouldnt bother fitting it....also sadly no longer have a dog so no real requirement for it any more (didnt die had to be rehomed as couldnt be trusted around my son - still see him though). The bumper foilnis all well and good until that gets anhilalated by something; it the looks carp and has probably only done so much to protect the bumper underneath.
