buying a used octavia to use as a taxi what to watch out for

Featured Replies

Snap mate, I have also tried the V power (and similar others) for a couple of weeks.

I never got any extra mpg or noticeable performance.

But I would say the engine ran slightly smoother/quieter.

But not enough to warrant the price difference imo

Think Ill stick to normal BP fuel. Unless there's no cheap diesel about during the winter.

I experimented with V power in my Octavia a while back. I used it for 2000 miles.

I actually experienced a slight reduction in MPG and no noticeable difference in power. I did notice the car was much less smoky when booting it though...especially noticeable at night. So It does seem to be a cleaner fuel but on balance, not worth the extra cost in my opinion.

I ve got a 2009 mk2 , which is also a Taxi 1.9tdi, its in the garage at the moment for new camshft , cams and valves, also new cam belt and water pump at the same time £1500 bill expected ouch !!. Apart from that a good car , has had the DMF changed too solid.

What mileage have you done to need that doing ?

Did the cam belt snap?

Or did the cams just wear out......if so has 505.01/506.01/507 spec oil always been used.

Ran loads of octys as taxi's my last being a 59 plate 1.9 Tdi DSG, can never fault them.

I've went n bought a berlingo, shoot me now please.... Done 20k in it & it's been in the garage more than I have in the past with any my octys.

So back on the market for an octy, found a nice 58 plate mk2 elegance estate, 1.9tdi for 4500. 90k on the clock. Genuine miles with full dealer history

I run BP ultimate in my wife's car, notice the bennifits if you only use it, never mix. I got the car fully serviced including fuel filter, went straight to BP, full tank of ultimate diesel. & it's ran like that for the past 5k, better mpg, less smoke, better response & just generally runs smoother. That's a pug 307 Hdi, 2,0 sport, been remapped & DPF removed.

I like to treat the taxis to a couple tanks of BP ultimate & again notice the differance, my old 2.0 Tdi passat, only ran on BP ultimate & again better mpg and less smokey. The way i see it, it's approx £3 a differance from normal stuff, saves me buying forte or millers fuel treatment.

But back onto topic, I can't fault octys, even high mileage taxis! So reliable providing they have been looked after

Did you change the DMF to SMF before camshaft gone.?
