Update: Reset Service Message

Featured Replies

Called the dealer yesterday and their service manager was emphatic that my Fabia Greenline 11 Diesel CANNOT have the service flag reset by button pressing as with the older Fabias. It has to be done via the diagnostic lead electronically. I pointed out that page 17 of the handbook claims the flag can be reset by pressing the oo button [on my car]. He says this is wrong and the book has not been updated. To be fair, I have found other anomalies in the book e.g. the book shows a coolant gauge for my car but in reality there is no coolant gauge. Dash layout is also very different.

It would seem Skoda are dictating, we may not reset our own service flags in cars WE own after we diligently do our own service! This rather sours things for me!

Came across this in my travels and wonder if anyone here has experience of the device?

OBD2 II Diagnostic Cable USB for Skoda Fabia Felicia | eBay

They don't appear to say whose software they are using? One or two avenues still to explore then I may give it a go anyway if I meet a dead end.

I don't know if fabia 2 is canbus or not but if it works it looks excellent value for money. I was looking at a couple of fault code readers in argos for roughly £80 - £120 ish. I can't remember exact costs though cos my memory is like a fish...

I would like to service my own when out of warranty so am taking interest in the responses to this and the previous thread.

Hey Jaxx,

Further in the listing there is a list of the VAG stable with which the device is claimed to be compatible or not. Fabia is specifically listed as 'compatible'. I notice also the software can operate right up to Windows 7 unlike many of the the other devices including many readers on eBay so can only assume both device and software are up to date. I have written to the listing poster and asked specifically if one needs to 'register' the software in order to reset the service light as he makes reference in the listing elsewhere, certain functions may need the software registered. If it's just a case of registering or a small charge to do so then a neat work around Skoda and their skull duggery as to how and who can reset their pesky service flag.

As you see, I'm not one to give up easily and hope I'm not boring the rest of the group but will re-post if I get success. Likewise if anyone can crack this nut then would love to hear from them.

I've been disappointed with Skoda for lying through their teeth as to how much the MPG return is. Claiming 83.1 MPG combined is criminal as far as I'm concerned and no one in the industry or government willing to challenge them, is derelict of resposiblity! I've never experienced more than sixty out of it and sometimes as little as fifty! Of over the twenty cars I've owned throughout my lifetime I was ALWAYS able to far exceed the claimed returns yet this car comes out at least 35% shy of its claimed MPG. On top of that, no spare wheel but a tube of crud to play with when that puncture comes on a dark and rainy night and now the dictatorial buggas won't allow me to reset the service interval. I seriously wish I had stuck with my old Fiat Punto which really did give me 80 miles to gallon unlike this bloody tank!

Rant over. Will try keep you informed if I can discover a work around.

Cheers.

Try 'Gendan' for VAG fault code readers and service light tools. Very helpful.
