ASR Light On

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Did a search on the boards and found this thread here:

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/showthread.php?t=27519&highlight=ASR

regarding the ASR light being on. Just did my usual journey to work, and about 10 miles from base I noticed the ASR light was on. Pressed the button and didn't make any difference (still on!). Pulled into the car park and turned off the engine, gave it a few seconds and restarted the car, and its off (and when you push the button it goes on again).

Is this something I need to worry about? I only got the motor about a month ago, or should I give the dealer a bell? Don't wanna phone up and say its doing this if I drive all the way back home and it doesn't do it once.

Its a 2001 with about 60k on the clock, and I just had a new cambelt fitted on the weekend (though it didn't do this yesterday or sunday).

Any suggestions, as always appreciated! :-)

Light on means ASR is off.

For some reason I'm thinking if the light is on...and you haven't turned ASR off....it's something to do with blown brake/light bulb.

Not sure why I think that though. :o

Some one will know the answer though. :D

Not being alarmist, so don't get upset or panic!

Mine only did it once - just before it went bang. Was not running well, boost was erratic and then the ASR light came on, then the engine light.

As Adrian said, it could just be a blown bulb :)

hehe naw i'm calm ;)

been running absolutely fine, like i say the only thing i've had done is the cambelt and tensioner dampner (?) changed on the weekend, simply cause it'd done 60k, and had a drive out on Sunday and to work and back Monday and no problems.

what I was confused about was that when i switched the engine off, it went back to normal. I always drive with ASR light off/traction control on.

On mine (ESP, Furby) I had the light come on when I stalled the engine (which btw hasnt happened since, I was pretty hacked off with myself, dropped in 3rd in my sleepy state at 5 mph without using the accelerator... dumb, yep ;) )

As I was on the move I just started in 'on-the-fly', i.e. car still moving. The ABS didnt appear to like that so the light came on.

We came to a proper stop a little later so turned off the engine & started straight back up after that, sorted.

Not happened before or since & in that case it was purely as I had upset the system ;)

mine came on along with the abs light, my brake fluid was low

It's happened to me a number of times since i got my fabia 2 years ago, but it hasnt recently...and when it does i just switch it off and start again...got used to it

Oh...

I need definitions...

What is VAG?

What is MAF? :o:o

Thought it was Volkswagen AG = Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft? ;)

It's the MAF!!

I'll put money on it. The ECU puts the car into a safe map (NOT LIMP MODE) and you cannot turn the ASR off again untill you change it, plus you loose traction control.

Sort of what I said - I'm with the small handed chap on this one

erm ... ok.. the MAF (seen above explanation of term...)

wuttsit mean :P basically do i need to worry, and take it back to the dealer ;) hehe.

got the same problem on mine and only started recently and not very often.

i'm running a jabba induction kit and it needs cleaning, so does the MAF so i'd agree with what Des has said.

i'm going to try and sort the filter/MAF out when i get the car back from the body shop so i'll let you know how i get on.

Just drove back from work, clocked it, got to 20 miles and *bing* (without the sound fx mind you :p) on it came again. I'll give the dealer a bell tomorrow (got a years warrenty with it anyway) and tell them the info given here (thanks for the feedback).

Its ok to drive though right?

if it was bad or dangerous it wouldn't let you, or go very very slow

you really will know if your in limp mode

There is a difference between "limp" and "safe" though :)

i'm guessing i get safe mode when mine comes on cause the car drives more or less normally but i deffinately have no traction/ASR control.

limp is not good though, limits boost to almost non i believe and allows you to drive at very restricted speeds. just to get home or to the garage.

as above you'd know.
