Rear Axle / Bad Tyre wear

Featured Replies

Hi,

I own a Fabia VRS. Both rear tyres wear very badly on the inner rims. If you look at the back of the car, it looks as though it is squatting slightly. I have been told that laser alignment / geometry cannot be done on these types of cars.

Is this a new rear axle?

Is it lowered?

Alignment can be done on these cars.

Spoke to Farnborough Tyres. They said the the front can be adjusted but not the rear. No it is not lowered.

sounds like you have negative camber which could be solved by camber shims but to correct it properly you would need a full geometry check first

That shouldn't happen. Have a 4WA and look at the rear angles. Might be that you can fit camber shims. Alternatively, grab a spare axle off ebay or a local breakers.

Another thought is worn wheel bearings!

There will be a reason that this is happening... Could be a bent rear axle, axle bushes worn, bent stub axles

Try and have a look at the rear axle from back of car, put a flat bar against bottom of spring cups and see if their both the same etc.

Cheers for replies. Mechanic is looking into this next week, so will let you know.

If your near Leeds take it to abc car services, they will sort it for you as they specialised in this sort of thing. Found my problem where other garages failed took my money and failed again.
