Hi there, im just installing my CD changer, problem is getting power. I know where the fuse bok is under the steering wheel, i don't know where to put the cable though or even how to access the part of the fuse box where i would put it! can anyone help?

If the cd changer is being used with a compatible HU then can u not get power via the Hu , my changer plugs into either the standard Hu or a Panasonic but in both cases it plugs directly into the back and requires no further power .

Its possible, but doing that would mean the CD changer would only be live when auxillary power is active, i want it to be live all the time, im thinking of using the same feed as the cigarete lighter as that is always live. any thoughts?

If you change the switched live and permenant live on the HU you will only be able to switch the HU off manually but it means that the power will be on to the cd player at all times ie when the ignition is off

that won't be a problem as long as i remember to turn it off will it?

and if so what colour wires will i swap round, its a panasonic head unit and changer, doesnt matter if you dont know that bit.

or just run both the battery and igntion feeds off of the battery feed :confuse:

out of interest why do you want your changer live all the time?

so just stick both red and yello into the battery feed(can't remember to be honest which is which)

so that i can just go into the boot and change the cds without having to put keys in the ignition. I'm not quite sure what you mean by that. where is the battery feed?

behind the HU, i wouldn't do it myself as it may drain your battery.

on my last headunit the amplifier remote output didn't work so my amps were left 'ticking over' all the time. no noise coming from them but it would drain my battery everyday till i worked out what it was

Your correct, I wondered why chris wanted a permenant live but thought he maybe wanted to listen to sounds when the keys were out of the car , but as you say the CD's can be changed without a permenant feed or with the key's in the car.

Chris, what type of combo are you running, Kenwood, Pioneer, Blaupunkt? If you really want to do it that way, you can use a scotch lock on the permanent live to your head unit. I run a line to my amp from the fuse box but it is ignition live only. Cant find any spare lines in the fuse box that are permantent (Octavia).

hi there, sorry took long to reply, iv been out. Thanks for all the advice. ITs a panasonic im using, but i've figured it out, i found an adapter in the box especially for this. Stupid of me not to notice it. Lol. Once again thanks for all the advice, its workin great now. Only thing is I must have affected some wires when putting the HU back in, one of them is being weird. Will have to check them out tomorrow
