Small 'leccy gremlin

Featured Replies

Hi folks. Been a while since I've posted on here, but my Octy has developed a strange fault and I need some advice.

Recently, the red light in the speedo that usually tells me the handbrake is on has been coming on while I'm driving. It flashes for about 5-10 seconds, and is accompanied by an angry sounding bleeping noise.

It only seems to happen during fast driving; cornering and taking roundabouts quickly, braking heavily etc. It's only ever the handbrake exclamation-mark-in-a-circle light that comes on too. If any others came on with it(oil, battery etc) I'd obviously stop straight away. It might be that something is loose, and driving fast triggers it. Any ideas?

Check your brake fluid level

This indication also comes up for low brake fluid level, accompanied by three beeps according to the drivers manual.

If it is getting low, this might be why it only comes on with high G manoeuvres.

Check your fluid level as a first step, and if low, check for leaks.

Ah, that'll be it. It's just below the minimum mark. That'll teach me to ignore the manual! I did actually read it when I got my car, but that was over a year ago. Predictably, it says on the reservoir that only genuine fluid should be used. Should I stick to this rigidly, or will any dot 4 do?

Thanks

Marge

Any good dot 4 will be fine. Unless it's been sat on the shelf for a while.

Hi Marge

before you just top up the fluid, check your pads ! if your pads are worn then the fluid will drop, so if you then replace your pads and

you have topped up the fluid then it will overflow !!
