Hi

can you help me

i have new xenon headlights and want to put it on my car

it is oct 2001

so what i need to buy except headlihts and how to disabe of turning off low beam when turning on high beam

al informations welcome

Got your fire retardant suit on?

I'm not sure what you mean by stopping the full beam disabling the dipped, basically you need a bi xenon kit, but a lot of people will tell you not to do it for various reasons.

Other option is to get a set of factory xenon headlights but they are expensive.

If you have a search it's been covered

You'll need kufatec witing harness adaptors

And theres a guide on ukmkiv's on how to do the dipped beam. Its basically a link of cable from a terminal on the indicator stalk to the headlight turn knob

HIDS DIRECT on eBay supplied mine they are a full bi xenon kit which took about 1 1/2 to fit and really simple run strainght off the h4 adaptors and have no issues with hi low beams

About £70 all in! Been on my car fir 3 years and the only issue I had was when I steam cleaned the engine and killed the loom which the replaced with a new water proof one free of charge

And also may fail an MOT test.

But unlikely to ...

But unlikely to ...

I dunno, I could name at least 10 places around here that'd guaranteed fail it on beam pattern...

Never had a problem with mine on MOT side of things I know techincally they should have a "lens" but they are adjusted so they don't dazzle

A lot of MOT testers don't actually bother with the beam viewers these days, but the beam pattern on retrofitted HID's in standard headlights is all to c*ck, and potentially dangerous to other road users.

I have the proper xenons on mine and they are hassle to say the least, the main beam cuts off when full beam applied, plus the don't have self levelling and no washers and the motors don't adjust :( I've tried to do these but they are hassle so I am going bck to normal occy lights with updated bulbs plus xenon are **** in bad weather they light up everything apart from the road,

These are why they are an expensive option on these cars cause its not worth it... Plus where I have my mot done said they will need washers soon as they are Cummin down hard on mot stations to sort dogey headlight and wonky beams

I have the proper xenons on mine and they are hassle to say the least, the main beam cuts off when full beam applied

That's the same with all other Octy's, and most cars in general, assuming you actually mean the dipped headlights switch off when full beam is applied.

I have retro-fitted OEM xenons to my car, mounted the original levelling motors so that I can still adjust the level if required and also added the wire from the headlight switch to the fusebox required to keep the dipped beam on when main is switched on. I recently ditched the cheap D2S bulbs that came with my retrofit kit and put some Phillips 4300K versions in their place and the difference was quite surprising.

speak to kentphil, he is doing thi at the moment,

you need to run another earth inside the cluster and used the old reflector looms. they clip in.

Easy job and takes 10 mins. no need to spend loads on looms.

thats what i done in mine, and they work fine. I run Aftermarket hids in both dipped and fogs with no problems. kent Phil got his xenons from me so an vouch for this method working on my car. :)

lights are not as blue/purple as pic shows but you get the idea.

See my build thread for more info. :)

Gee is correct in what he says, I have gone slightly further by getting 2 donor lamps to dremel the level motor mount out of to use as a guide to make up a new aluminium plate to mount the original motor and allow the levellers to work correctly.

I cannot take credit for this as it is similar to ExAudiSi's setup. I have installed extra wiring from the switch to fuse box to allow dip beam to stay on when switching on main beam, and am trying to source headlamp washers to finish the job off.

My extra wiring is fitted with repair loom connectors from Skoda to allow the system to return to standard, should I decide to swop back to standard units.

Reinforcing the eye mount for the leveller eye from the old leveller motor is fiddly but everything else is just time and patience.

well i looed but i did not find it can someone put pictures here or something else

Are you talking about the Kufatec adaptors or the switch loom modification wiring?

  • Author

well the switch loom modification i need

all you need to do, is jump a wire off the earth for your main beam bulb to enable you to flash and have all light on at once. ill see if i have any pics. but it really is as easy as that :)

please ,

or tell me what pin to where

Diagram or pics on wire mod and how cut and retro fit the original motors?!?

only if you ask nicely ;)

Pretty please :(

I made up some flat ally mounting plates that attach inside the lamp using the screw holes for the OEM ignitor would have gone. The halogen motor is flat on the back so I bolted it to this.

I also used the little black arm from the the halogen lamp that the ball in the motor slides in. This is screwed to the black support frame for the reflectors in line with the slot that the xenon motor would have used, but closer to the main beam side.

To get the dipped beam to stay on with main, you need to connect pin 8 on the back of the head light switch to the yellow and green wire at the fuse box. This is how a Golf Mk4 would be wired from the factory as they have separate dipped and main beam bulbs as standard.

Hope this helps.
