Read SMS on MaxiDot - Columbus Rev C

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've read in a few places it should be possible to read incoming text/SMS on the MaxiDot display when using the OEM bluetooth module and a Columbus head unit.

Does anyone know which combination of hardware/firmware is required to do this?

I just can't get it working.

Many thanks,

I think this depends on the bt module you have, and also the type of maxidot is important. Mine being a pre FL octavia maxidot means I don't have the phone menu and I can't therefore adjust settings or have additional functionality such as text support. I think if I had an FL octavia maxidot, it would have the menu and would givve me this functionality. Does the Fabia FL use the same maxidot as the Octavia FL? I'm not sure, but do you have a phone option on the menu?

I rely solely on the head unit for operating my phone. This doesn't give me text support, nor am I sure I would want it to. I think this requires the module and phone to connect via the rSAP protocol and I'm not sure my module would support that even if my phone did.

Hi Adam,

Thanks for the reply. Think the Maxidot fabia and octavia are the same.

I've got the phone menu and can make calls / take calls using the wiper stalk or using the columbus itself

I've done some further reading and found my BT unit (a 5K0 unit) doesn't support rSap so thats why its not working for me. :'(

This ross tech article has them all listed

Based on the prices of some of the working units dotted Around ebay and such:

5N0-035-730-C

5N0-035-730-D

3C8-035-730-A

3C8-035-730-B

3C8-035-730-C

It's probably not worth me swapping

Cheers

Yeah I have the 5K0 unit too and I wasn't sure about rSAP protocol. I wish I could get mine coded to simply talk to the older maxidot (not really bothered about texts) but it doesn't seem to be possible.
