Front Wiper Motor...Urgent help please

Featured Replies

Our fabia II has a problem with front wipers. Last time it rained they were irratic but today they stopped altogether! Fuse is ok. Without a haynes type manual I can't even see the motor, let alone try to check it. Do I need to remove wipers and plastic panel to access it? Could it be a relay fault? Is motor failure a common problem? Any clues appreciated...I'm working in the dark on this one!

Thanks

D

car still under warranty

no, its a 2008 car.

I can't speak specifically for the fabia, but yeah that's where it is on the Octavia.

Not hard to replace, wipers off, plastic panel off, motor out.

There is also a relay that controls the wipers that is hidden behind the dashboard, where the secondary glove box is on drivers side (again I'm talking about the octavia though)

Wiper motors are a common fault, have had them go on every octavia I've had, but if you know someone with VCDS they could scan your car and tell you for sure if that's what it is.

thank you. i have vcds lite but i think that is only engine issues?

Does anyone know about any relays in the Fabia?

Might be worth accessing the motor and checking for volts at the plug with a good old multi-meter. Volts then likely the motor is duff, otherwise wiring, selector or relay.

Hope these are of help anyway;

Exactly same happened on my 11plate monte.ended up on lowloader with skoda assist.

New wiper motor fitted under warranty but maybe could be fixed?

And exactly the same happened last year with my 11 plate estate. They failed while I was on the road using intermittent wipe. Luckily was nearly at my destination so was just about able to get there. Skoda assist came out. We agreed I would drive home as it was then dry, then got the hire car exchange the next morning. It's clearly a weak point.

More help please guys....

Had the motor out and that seems ok when powered directly. Suspecting the relays now. Had it going for a short while but has stopped again! Where are the bloody relays and how do you get to them?

ok, update for anyone in future...it was poor earth that caused problem. motor was fine.

also be aware that intermittent wipe doesn't work when bonnet up!

thanks guys

Could you say where the poor earth was please?

i believe it is supposed to earth through the four retaining bolts that mount the motor onto the linkage bar.

that explains why it worked for a while yesterday then failed again. putting it back onto the car it worked again

today but i have also secured an additional earth lead as a 'fail-safe'.

Bloody things stopped again after about 1/4 mile!!!!

I'll put money on its the motor on the way out, that's exactly what one of mine did for a couple of weeks.

Then they stopped altogether when I was doing a decent speed down the A19 :-@
