Don't worry Arclight, Grizzle seems to be a little Grizzly today  I seem to have taken the brunt of it for trying to ask a sensible question about running in the engine, never mind, nearly home time which means time for some "spirited driving" as you like to put it!!

yup.

i personally hate "S" mode - it keeps the engine revved too high in every gear.

"D" does a very good job for me.

"M" with paddles occasionally, when tackling windy roads or numerous roundabouts.

Whats with the alpha S, D & M is that some sort of sexual thing down under?

I'm all numeric, just got 1-6 going forward... :)

Just something about shifting gear yourself that gives me satisfaction, sure im probably not in the right gear most of the time but i would never swap the sensation of moving through the gears feathering (dumping) in the clutch yourself for the ease of an automatic. Even though they are getting slicker and probably beat a human in a 0-60 sprint. P.S enjoying holding the gearstick is by no way a sexual thing :whew: but im one of those anoying people who keep their hand on the stick even when theres no need to change just feels right, more natural than the 10 - 2 position on the steering wheel. The blackline seams a tighter but slicker shift than my older pre FL VRS not sure if they have changed anything or if its the diffence between diesel and petrol or if its just that my petrol is older but one thing i know is its sweet as a nut

I enjoy having technology work for me, and this includes having a gearbox switch gears for me absolutely seamlessly.

I dont mind driving a manual but its the clutch that gets annoying for me after a while. probably because im a lanky bar steward with dodgy knees. Remember SAAB years ago tried, or may have actually done it, to make a manual gearbox i.e normal shift lever but with no clutch pedal. The automated clutch would engae when it felt pressure on the gear stick. May be quite fun have the feeling of control by holding the stick in your hand but without the hassle of clutching in and out. How about a DSG box whereby the gear lever can be moved in the manual stick way but still could operate like a normal DSG also. Wouldnt be too hard surely? i.e rather than pushing it forwards or backwards in manula mode you could move it round the gate. I would quite like that.

Am i just being stupid again?

No its an idea i have had for a while but i think it would have to be a fly by wire system rather than mechanical gate / linkage. i.e. a sensor in each fork. to trigger a dsg system similar to a sequential box but just traditional layout. Although i quite like the clutch but im only 5ft 10 so the leg length isn't a problem.

As much as I enjoy the DSG I also really miss a manual change also. I didn't think I would but alas I do. Still love the Blackline :) never fails to put a smile on my face!
