Anyone got any of these suspension set ups on a VRS

Featured Replies

Ive had KW Varient 3's on my old Octavia vrs, they were awesome but over kill for a road car imo.

I then broke a coilover so bought brand new Weitec Hicon GT for £500 and imo were far more suited for the road, and drove well on them.

  • I have KW v'3 on mine. I would say hold off until you can afford some they are awesome.

  • I have H&R springs on standard front struts and rear shocks (I'm getting to old for rock hard road car suspension!), measured the car before and after and they lowered it 20mm (03 plate VRS), ride

  • Pic of my octy lowered on V3's

v3s and v2s have much better shocks that the gts, the gts are non adjustable, the v2s and v3s are..

imo its the other way round andy!

My old MK1 vRS had KW V2's on, and they transformed the handling of the car.

There used to be a lot of kits available for the MK1 vRS, but you need to remember its been out of production for 7 years with dwindling numbers. Unfortunately that in turn leads to less kits being available as manufacturers stop making them due to no / little demand.

I think KW3's would be total overkill for me! I only do 10-15 miles most days! And i dont drive like i used to so wouldnt get the benefit of them when pushing it!

Im tempted to just get some H&R springs without uprated shocks for now and go from there! Although i do keep getting drawn to the Weitecs!

if you don't drive the car properly (as a fast road car i mean), or on track then you are right, v3s are overkill.

Don't get just springs, thats a bodge way of doing it...do it cheap do it twice, the springs are not matched to the shock, the shocks are old, and their lifespan (or lackof thereafter) will be expedited by the uprated shocks. It will also handle badly, if you don't wanna spend v3 money, but still want a good kit, go weitecs imo.

Is it really gonna be that bad on just springs? Ive had cars before and done just Eibach Springs and they were great, and alot of people in Fabia and Octavia 2 camps seem to do just this and have no problems. Obviously what you say it absoluelty right and if funds allowed i would get Weitecs or above! im just thinking can it destroy the handling that much?

I think my experience of previous cars on coilovers wound right down has put me off, but also a £300 difference is a deciding factor aswell.

why does everyone think coilover need to be wound right down? course they are gonna be cr*p!

yes, it will be bad, shorter springs, are designed for shorter shocks, the vrs shocks if not mated to the right spring will be working in an area of travel that they don't normally, coupled with 60-80k plus mileage and up to ten years in age, alongside the new springs, means that they very much will speed up the little life left in the shocks.

Shocks are given an average life anyway, thats normally well exceeded on most cars, by uprating the springs, you are just putting more strain on the weakest link..

Butchvrs - what is the bouncyness like on h&rs with standard shocks? As standard suspension can get abit bouncy and rocking on acceleration and braking.

Any pics of H&Rs fitted side on pics for reference?

I really want to go coilovers as i know i wont regret it, other than ride wise!

Doesn't bounce or crash etc, as I said, it rides just like standard but when you push on it tightens up nicely.

Oh forgot to mention the car is poly bushed right through.

I've never taken any photo's of my car, but if it stops raining I'll try and get one.

good luck with the rain thing...maybe next year!

I know they dont need to be and they wouldnt be on the VRS! Just what i wanted at the time!

Just seen a pic on another forum of a VRS with H&R's and doesnt look a great deal different to standard height but cant tell 100%, so sways me to weitecs again :)

Fear that is an awesome late low mileage VRS you have there. Just run her as she is and enjoy. Then if you wish to modify/upgrade go for the KW V3's when funds permit.

I may stick an RARB on and see how that makes it feel! I only really want to do it for looks!

:wall: only for the looks...go ahead..you can fit any old rubbish then if you don't need/want a decent ride, def no point in fitting v3s..i suspect they would be wasted somehow, so would the weitecs.

rear arb on these makes a big difference, but again, if you are more about the show, than the go, and don't push the car, then probably not much point in that either!

Yeah not afraid to say its for the looks, but i dont want to put any old rubbish on! i still want it to handle aswell as it does as standard or better but without it being a harsh ride. Hence why i was trying to get H&R springs only feedback!

Theres no doubt i would feel the rewards of KW's etc but like i said performance of those versus the miles i do most days makes the cost offset heavy!

I do think i would see the difference with the RARB though as although i dont push it much i do notice the bouncy/wallow rear end!

I appreciate everyones opionion, but just being honest with what my needs are!

Do weitec do a kit for VRS only? as can only find ones that are 1000 kg front and rear, KW1s are the only coilovers i can see that are rated at 1070 kg rear.

na thats cool dude, horses for courses and all that!

yes weitec gts have a specific kit for the vrs, that works, i have owned some as well as kws, so can vouch for both personally!

I have been thinking about a few other mods aswell tho, re map etc so could find myself needing the better suspension due to getting encouraged to push it abit more :)

Really do appreciated all opinions tho!

i would do rear arb first, as course of practice, the octavia really needs it and wants to understeer big time...then look at coilovers later

Eibach pro springs are fine on stock dampers, they are progressive

Obviously uprated shock would be better

Brand new KW V3's in the for sale section !

seen them, not far from me either! but still out my price range :(

you looked at ap? they are made by kw, and are cheaper than weitec, not sure by how much though.

  • Author

Have looked at AP, as knew they were something to do with the weitec/KW group, and have heard some good things about them across a few forums! Will do a little more digging i think :)

EDIT: Just had a quick look again, and £60 between ap and weitec and £60 between weitec and KW, thats just teasing :(

it is really isn't it..thought there was more of a price gap tbh!

What is the Weitec ride quality compared to a standard setup, (with Weitecs around the same height as stock, or their highest setting).

honestly...not as comfy, they are more sport based than normal shocks, like all coilovers really..

you want comfort, its fsds and something like h&r springs
