Anyone found the air intake yet? (Re. Flooded roads)

Featured Replies

In view of the current watery conditions, has anyone discovered (hopefully not in anger) how low down the air intake is? I found out just how low the old shape Clio one was - to my cost (and that of my insurer)...and wondered where the Citigo / Up one is situated.

Pretty high up really. I wouldn't risk more than around 6" flood water in any car to be honest, exvept 4x4

The air intake is right at the top of the engine bay, turned to face backwards and downwards slightly.

It's in a good place IMO and would be difficult to get water in.

The cover in front of the alternator will help too.

LOL; but true!

How deep are you planning on going? :D

It was meant as a bit of a laugh but it will actually prevent heavy spray from entering the area just where you don't want it. Like the sort of spray when a lorry passes in the opposite direction or when you hit standing water too fast. Anyway yer not planning to go too deep lol

Thank you for responses. Pleased it's up a bit although am very wary of any sort of water now. There's a thread on another forum reminding bods that intakes are often down by the front bumper. That's where my Clio one was - near the front wheel. It sucked up the (far too deep) water I foolishly went through within seconds and caused the obvious hydraulic lock....then went on to soak the carpets etc.

Must be a french car thing... I hydro'd the engine in my Citroen ZX 1.9D the same way. Air intake really low down and on the bumper.

Oh dear!

How did you fix it?

Mine went in to an insurer approved repairer who sorted the carpets but then sent it to the main dealer for the engine repair. Total bill around 2k (and that was 20 years ago.

It's very expensive still, there is a DSG 140CR 4x4 Yeti on a 12 plate in the slavage auction at Copart that has just got flood damage.

Looks like it's had about 20cm or so of water inside it.

Looks like they have paid out and written it off to the tune of around £20k, will be interesting to see what it sells for.

I didn't! It was an M reg with 150k on the clock so it got scrapped!

Regularly see cars in York being recovered from car parks after people left them in there when it's flooded.

Been down to Wiltshire over the weekend and had to do around three detours due to the floods. One poor sole was in the middle of a flooded part of the road, the water was halfway up the front wheels and he had stopped. It was a Vx Meriva, there was no way I was attempting it in the Citigo, a 4x4 would have struggled getting through that one.

"One poor sole was in the middle of a flooded part of the road,".........

.......Something fishy going on there!

only if the driver was on the roof with his rod dangling over the side, :) :) :p (back to the naughty corner)

but i didn't think sole was a freshwater fish, more an estuary mud flat sort of thing

Mate of mine saw two blokes bailing out their astra today after navigating a flooded road, the engine was still going but they had filled the footwells full of water.
