Aquaplaning

Featured Replies

I am wondering if this is just me and the cheapy tires that were on the car when I bought it. But is anyone elses VRS aquaplaning at the slightest hint of standing water? I'm not even going that quick 20-25 and it starts to go.

I was going to change the tires in the middle of spring any way, after I had done a few things to the car, but I might have to change early.

If they are really cheap tyres then that is likely the reason. What are they exactly?

Also the state of the roads the last couple of days I imagine a lot are in similar situations.

I had some evil event 905's on my vrs. They were truly awful and did aquaplane pretty bad. I've found some good budget tyres that have the same fuel economy and grip rating as some michelins costing 4 times as much.

Tyres now have to come with grip, fuel ecomony and noise rating stickers on them. These are the same style as the ones you get microwaves, fridges and washing machines etc for electricity use etc.

all the tyres are tested the same way to tge sane standard to be given their rating so if you can find a website that gives you that info for each tyre you could pick a good tyre that way.

Treat yourself to some Winter tyres and then look for summer tyres when the winter is over.

If the water is deep enough you'll aquaplane whatever tyres you have. Mine feels really well planted in the wet though, but I don't often come across deep standing water.

The Clue is in the name, There awesome in the wet

Down the ability of the tyre to clear water

Tread depth quite critical here

Once you're below 3mm of thread, no tyre works that well in standing water

The black circles website has the grip, fuel and db ratings of all the tyres they sell.
