What to check out or buy for my new (used) DSG vRS

Featured Replies

I just bit the bullet and bought myself a new toy... a diesel DSG vRS. The car is a standard vRS spec & has just under 6k miles on it. It was previously registered to Skoda UK in Jan 12. Apparently it was a director's car at head office.

I've been reading through a lot of the threads on here to pick up some pointers here & there. What would be the first things you do with a used vRS? What would you seasoned owners consider an absolute must?

A few things on my list so far...

  • I read on a couple of threads about resetting the adaptive auto?
  • Get a boot net!
  • Maybe get a set of boot LEDs. I recall seeing in a thread somewhere that some reprogramming may be needed? Can these ones just pop in without that?
  • The car doesn't have integrated BT at the moment. I don't want an aftermarket, external solution but the dealer quoted £380 to install OEM. Is there a cheaper way to get it done properly?

I'm not planning on doing anything major to the car myself, I mostly just don't have the spare time or inclination to fiddle too much.

'what would be the first things you do with a used vRS?'

• See how fast it goes

• Check everything works as it should

• Fill it with fuel

• See how fast it goes

I've got a Fiscon plus Blutooth unit for sale which integrates like oem.

Not forgetting to make sure it stops.

Polish

Glaze

Wax

Sealer on the Alloys

I bought the oem VW BT module off eBay and loom and mic from carsystems for about £160 and fitted myself (relatively easy but takes a few hours) Integrates perfectly with maxidot and my bolero. Anyone of us with vcds will be happy to help with the bit of coding once installed.

First thing I did was seal the alloys though.

There will be no washing & polishing going on this weekend with this weather :(

I must admit I'm more of a computer techie than a car one... I'm not good with removing & replacing trim! There's a car audio place just around the corner from me, I think I'll ask them how much they would charge to fit a BT kit if I manage to get one for a decent price.

What's the best thing to use to seal the alloys with?

I'm planning on sealing my alloys for the winter with a large wooden shed :hi:

Then put on a not so sexy set of steel wheels with GY U8 tyres. Nearly time.

Seriously tho, i wouldn't worry too much as your car has low mileage and still 2 years warranty on it. Just listen out for noises etc. Test drive with the radio off lol

When I bought my vRS, the Autoglym lifeshine package http://www.autoglym.com/engb/lifeshine.asp was part of the deal. (No, of course the cost of it had not been calculated in. :sun: https://www.facebook.com/autoglym)

A guy I know who has his own valeting business exclusively uses their kit and swears by it.

The package include various alloy care products. I even have their dedicated bird**** wipes in my glove compartment.

I don't see this as an anorak approach, but rather a practical one. Keep the car washed reasonably often (HAND NOT MACHINE!) and two coats of this polish annually should keep fluid bouncing off enough for practical and sensible purposes. More often of course if you are a RSM in the Brigade of Guards. :giggle:
