What next after my Monte Carlo?

Featured Replies

If im right in thinking that this is a limited edition and that eventually they will make no more. What will I buy in three years time?

There are probably many like minded individuals that purchased the Monte purely for its lower cost and sportline looks than rather fork out on a faster and dearer VRS. So again what would I buy in three years time? I would not buy a VRS, no point for the likes of me, being a grandad that prefers style over substance. Imo I really think the style of the basic line of Fabias are somewhat dull looking in comparison to both the Monte and VRS. So I think they may have to keep that in mind for the Monte lovers and bring out a similar Sportline syle version if they want repeat business, because if my choice is a Fabia elegance or VRS, in three years im off!

On a side note im over the moon with my Red Monte but I thought I would like to add some points of styling that would be nice as standard.....Please feel free to add.

  • led daytime driving lights
  • mud flaps
  • sporty exhaust on show
  • rear interior light
  • rear discs
  • a windscreen that demists....or is it just me?

A vRS would add three of the things on your wishlist -LEDs, exhaust and rear discs! Just because it has 180bhp under the bonnet doesn't mean you have to drive like a hooligan :-)

I've seen plenty of older folk pootling about in them looking quite happy. Also once spotted a granny blasting along like her blue-rinse was on fire! Lol

The front and rear defussors and wheels could all be fitted to a elegance :)

Why not a vRS as said above dont need to fast. Instead you've got a chavved up fabia

As i said its down to cost £insurance and basically £17,000 to buy a VRS against £180 insurance for my Monte that cost me basically £13,500 to buy. £3,500 (not inc the hike in insurance) is a hell of a lot of money for me, especially to pay for a faster engine etc - that I can never benefit from!

Lol.. A chavved up fabia. I wonder if SUK was aiming for that type of market

Err 17k for a vRS... I guess you have never heard of the vat-free deal then matey?!

I paid £14,200 for my vRS brand spanking new including a few tasty options. Would I "save" £700 over what you paid and drive around in a Monte? ...... Nope! ;-) lol

Sorry no offence meant, if you can't afford to buy or run a vRS then hey-ho. ;-)

The Monte is a perfectly good daily driver I'm sure. I was only pointing out that a vRS need not cost £17k. It was you that was comparing the two in your original post....... matey.

Gran Tourer would be interesting, I think they will do something tho. It would be a mistake to not cash in on that price range.

ps. Furbytom, no offence taken WSE or given by me. I really admire the VRS but I bought the Monte because it ticked the right boxes for me.

I ran a 1.6 CR 105 Monte Carlo for a while, then chopped it in for an Elegance estate - much more space and better equipped

It's now running on a Bilstein B12 suspension kit, and it's been transformed

When I was in the market to buy a car I almost bought the New High and Dry i20 Style 5 door, which has more extras than than you can throw a stick at. But I felt it had a very generic, plain and boring style, so much so that I was afraid that if I parked it in any large car park It would blend in with every other Japenese motor and I would have to walk home...lol. Its difficult to have both spec and sporty style at many individuals price point!

Fair enough and I really like the Monte, defo can see the appeal! Good luck with the hunt for a new motor

lol I know...I should of said asian and I should of spelt Japanese correctly. For the record I was four/fifths p****d

I say enjoy your Monte and think about what's next in three years time!

Were going the other way; replacing an Elegance TSI 85 (hatch) for a Monte TSI 86 and keeping it fairly basic, ESP+ and cruise is about it.

TP

The monte was apparently made to replace the fabia sport... I don't think skoda will leave the monte customers with nothing next time round!

nothing new then ;)

Believe there was a Monte Carlo coupé version of the 1930's Popular Sport roadster, which took part in the rally itself.

As by then there will be a new Fabia and untold new models?

I like the Monte, just wish the vRS looked more like it :)

It'll be the new Fabia in three years. We'll have to see.

Check your rear screen connector hasn't come loose, mine got knowcked on one side and I plugged it back in - sure that was the Fabia.

Rear discs - I haven't missed them.

Rear mud flaps - for the sake of the rear wiper that is on PERMANENTLY, I would like some.

Exhaust could be a bit more visible.

Rear light became an issue this weekend, attempting to load kids/find stuff on a gloomy day was hard.

Headlights that do what they're supposed to wouldn't go amiss either...
