air bag light 2004 octy 2

Featured Replies

tried posting in the tech section but wudnt let me for some reason i recently purchased a vag cable with cd from ebay to reset an airbag light , it switched off the light no problem at the time it was showing as being side impact airbag ive switched it off 5 or 6 times at this stage but for some reason now when i switch it off it comes back on after a second would anybody know exactly what the problem is or what do i have to replace to get the light to stay off

You will have a fault somewhere in the airbag circuit. You could reset the light as many times as you like & it will just come back on again in till you fix the fault. You need to read the fault code & take it from there. :)

Ps by the way I'm no expert :(

My bet would be the electrical plug connector under the passenger seat, its a very common fault on most VAG cars, take the seat out and spray electrical contact cleaner into the plug and have a fiddle with the wires, i think the wires get stretched when the seat is moved back and forth which brings up the light, i think there may be a new plug available with slightly longer wires? not 100% sure though.

Likely it's the sear connector yes, as mentioned. If you've tried clearing the fault and it comes back again, likely you have a real problem (the point of the warning light).

Standard fix is for the dealership to wire the seat directly into the car, so you don't have the weak point of the connector.

Another fix is to take a rubber band and wrap it around the point where the seat connector joins the car wiring. This will keep the connectors together. It's obviously not a 100% fix but could do the job.

if you plan on disconnecting anything to do with the airbags, then you must disconnect the battery and leave the car for at least 1/2 hour otherwise when reconnecting you could deploy the airbag accidentally.

The fix on Vauxhalls was to use a tie wrap, worked nearly every time.
