Felicia headlight woes

Featured Replies

Afternoon, hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

I picked up my 'new' Skoda Felicia Cube (converted to a pickup) on Saturday, drove home in the dark without any issues (after the previous owner showed me how). Was out and about in it on Sunday (only daylight) and then went to go to work on Monday. Sidelights fine but no dip beam or main beam. Flash mainbeam worked, but not off the switch.

So after some reasearch (mainly on here, lots of useful info :) ) I come to the conclusion that the switch is the most likely culprit so wrestle with the dash and get the switch out. It rattles so pretty happy it is the culprit.

So picked up a new switch from my local VAG specialist (under £12 next day, happy with that) and just stuck it in. Still the same :( I've checked the fuses (visually), and they all look intact.

Any suggestions as to were to look next?

Cheers

Craig

It's wired through stalk, I expect the switch into stalk is bust.

The saga continues :p

Just been out and stuck new 10A fuses in (I had a pack of them spare so why not, the old ones all looked of varying ages and conditions), and still no dip/main (with the ignition in the engine running position as per previous tests) :(

But, because its going dark (I was armed with a torch, don't you love winter) I could see that the dip switch (on the dash) illuminates once the side lights are on and the switch gets brighter when switched so there is power getting to the switch.

So it def looks to be pointing to the stalk as the culprit. Any advice om removal sequence?

Cheers

I'm getting fed up with this now :wonder:

So, out this afternoon, I get out the main beam stalk. Bit of a pain, but once I've worked it out its pretty simple really.

So, out with the multi meter, (after finding it a new battery) I can find continuity between the indicator side terminals, the flash terminals but nothing across the remaining terminals no matter what setting the switch is in. So I come to the conclusion that the switch is dead/

Trip to the local breakers, find all 5 of their Felicias have had their dashes raped of switches, but 2 still have stalks. I remove the set from a facelifted one (it still had its glass so should be in better condition than the other mk1 that was missing most its glass), check the part numbers, all match :) Paid £8 and on my way

Was starting to get dark, but had enough light to try the switch and still nothing :wall: And to top it all, went to start it (just to make sure that the ignition switch wasn't in the wrong position) and the battery was nearly flat. But it had enough juice to start so left it idling for 5 mins (still nothing on the light front :( )

So tomorrow will be back out in the cold, checking to see where power is getting to with the multi meter (see if power is getting to the switches and to the stalk) and will go and swap the stalk for the other one and see if that is any better

The plot thickens. went and got my money back on the replacement switch, the other one they had seemed to do the same. So decided to go back to basic's. I wanted to open up the switch to see what was going on, but it is pretty firmly held together, but i decided to check it for continuity again. Now I am getting a reading between the pins :S So back out the and refit it. Try it and still nothing.

So I decide to fire it up, just about enough juice in the battery to get it going and back out with the multi meter and I'm not getting power to the stalk. At this point, not wanting to annoy the nieghbours too much, but wanting to charge the battery, I refit the steering wheel and take it for a good 10 mile run. Which was good fun, and get back and I try the lights. they now work :o

Could the problem have been all along that the battery was too flat? It had enough charge to start, warm the glow plugs, sidelights and brake lights, and when I 1st fired it up on Monday, it was idling when I tried the lights.
