Oil Level Light - need a top up

Featured Replies

I paid for a fresh oil change when I bought the car last year (almost 12 months now), cost £100 (robbin gits)

Anyway, my oil level light (not pressure) has been on for a couple of days and upon checking the oil level this morning, found to to be a little low. So, my engine was filled with fresh skoda 'long life' oil, do I (and can I?) buy a top up for this? If not, which would you recommend?

A litre of Castrol 5w 30 should do , and if you want the best Mobil 1 5w40 .

£100 for a minor service (oil and filter) at a Skoda main dealer is quite good. Their national pricing lists a minor service for £129...

Mine flashes the oil light on after around 12,000 miles, so it's using whatever the quantity is between MAX on the dipstick and the level to activate the light.

Skoda's longlife oil is Quantum (basically Castrol Edge in a different container), you can buy it online in 1 and 5 litre containers cheaper than you can get it from the dealers...

As above 5W30 is the oil you need, but the important thing to look out for is the specs on the container, your car must use VW 507.00 as it is fitted with a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF).

Cheers for the information silver, and the eBay link. I'm working near the local dealer later in th week so will drop in and pick up a litre.

Any of the oils on the list in the thread below are suitable. When you said you found the oil to be a little low, do you mean below the minimum mark on the dipstick?

When you say that you found the oil level to be a little low, do you mean below the minimum mark on the dipstick or within the bottom of the three marked zones? Either way, the oil must be topped to bring it to within the middle zone.

He said the oil light had been on for a few days.

My oil light came on last night so topped up when I got home. The level was on the MIN mark.

Does anyone know how much oil is required to go from MIN to MAX?

How many miles have you done since the last oil change a year ago? it maybe worth doing a oil & filter change.

Any VAG car with a DPF must use oil that meets 507.01 (longlife) regardless of service regime, since failure to do so could lead to premature failure of the DPF. I notice the OP has a PD170 vRS, so has a DPF and requires the longlife oil.

12,000 miles in 5 months. It flagged up for a service last week and the countdown is now at 500 miles.

I actually started a thread on the suprisingly short mileage/time I have managed since the last service what was supposed to be a variable service.

I topped up last night and will be booking it in for a minor service (£129) plus an air and fuel filter (£90) and asking them to keep the interval on variable.
