Columbus map updates

Featured Replies

Are the latest map updates dependent on the firmware installed. Do I need to upgrade firmware before I can have the latest maps?

Having recently taken delivery of my new Octavia vRS I asked a similar sort of question about maps. Skoda UK c.s. called me back to assure me that my car had all the latest updates, and (for info) new maps are produced at the end of March each year, so should be available via dealers soon afterwards.

Maybe you could give them a call about your car.

Ok but does anyone know if installing the latest maps would be dependent on having an up to date firmware?

You can update to latest mapping data whatever firmware level. Certain features like 7 digit postcodes, POI alerts etc require a certain level of firmware or above to activate.

Thanks Stevehg

Steve is right, you can have any map version in your car and it will be fine, however if you want to have 7 digit postcode search you must have 2684 or later firmware

Thanks Countryboy - just trying to make sure they update all the relevant things before I collect it on Wednesday. Is it possible the check from a menu option what firmware version is installed or does it need hooked up to the computer system to tell?

Needs to be hooked up onto a computer, there is a hidden menu but it too also requires enabling with the computer before it's accessible.

Thanks Mannyo - I will need to check if it has already been unlocked by the previous owner and if not look for a local 'helper' with the relevant equipment

To access the hidden menu, if its enabled. Press and hold the setup button, and keep holding for about 10-15 seconds before letting go. You should then see a version info button on screen.
