bloody vrs.. no boost, eml, have fault codes.

Featured Replies

drove my vrs today for the first time in a week and it was fine i went about 20 miles which included a 9 mile motorway blast then i went to get back in it to go home and the eml was on and there is no boost, i got my cheapo code reader out of the boot and it gave me 3 codes, 18009, 17569 and 17564. i cleared them and the 18009 has gone but the other 2 wont go and the eml stays on. does anyone have any suggestions before i delve into it tomorrow please?

Broken cable on the MAP sensor?

What the codes for?

Any smoke out the back?

can hear the turbo whistle when its not under load. no eccesive smoke, it has always been a bit smokey. i have recently done a decat egr delete, ccv mod and a bigger front mount. dont know what the codes are for, i have lost my book!

Google the codes, ross-tech will have them on there website!

Gives us a better idea!

egr delete will cause the eml to be on all the time, can't turn it off. no boost could be a broken pipe/intercooler pipe split? loose clamps? i split my intercooler pipe and didn't know until looking. have a quick look around all your connections :)

i have put all new intercooler pipe work on it in the last few months, i did the egr delete a few thousand miles ago and the eml has never been on. all the intercooler pipes are fine, i have checked. it was fine when i last drove it up until i parked up and went in the house, as soon as i started it again the eml was on and it seems to have electronically shut the turbo off..

mine took a bit to kick in, probs one of the clamps has come a bit loose and the boost is leaking. checking would be the best bet

definately no leaking hoses. just managed to get on a proper computer and find that 17569 is the manifold temp sensor. and 17564 is the manifold pressure sensor. too many stupid needless sensors on these bloody things, this car needs fixing, selling and am going back to old stuff! i have never heard of either of these parts before so would have no clue where to look for them and i didnt notice them when i was doing the decat and egr delete.. what are the chances both of these would pack up at the same time?

They could be the same sensor. I think the map sensor is on the pipework coming out of the intercooler, but I could be wrong.

Could also be a wiring problem.

As I said on my first post. Check the wires going to your MAP sensor. New intercooler setup might have caused a cable to break.

ok. will pop the headlight out today as the sensor is now behind it.

john i still want u to map it for me but every time i do something to it i end up with more problems! hopefully i will be in touch soon!

Lol no probs. give us a shout when your ready.

ok guys. ihave checked the wires to the map sensor and they were fine so i changed the map ssensor as it was only £18. i deteted the codes and took it for a drive, still wont boost so i plugged it in again now i have the code 18000, altitude signal/boost pressure sensor implausible ratio p1592. if i flick the ignition off and on again while am driving it boosts fine but the eml is still on and the 18000 fault code remains. every time i start the car i have to pull off then flick the ignition to get it to boost.. what would you reccomend next?

not got vcds, dont know anyone with it either! i have the use of a snap on solus which i used yesterday to find the 1800 code. all i usually use is a £10 code reader off ebay. will check the earth and all the wires again today. if they are ok where would that leave me?

Pop over it you don't get anywhere. I've hot vcds plus a couple of spare ecu's we could use to rule out the atmosphere sensor.

ok. When would you have time to have a look at it for me?

  • 2 months later...

So looks like a dodgy earth.
