Left Foot Braking

Featured Replies

Has anyone tried this?

I was trying to pivot the car round a wet roundabout yesterday but found that as soon as the brake peddle was pressed the throttle was reduced, even though I had my foot on it quite hard.

It this a feature of the "drive by wire" throttle?

Read all about it here

Cheers Q,

I guess I

Hmmm. Left foot braking. In my experience that is either not braking or braking VERY hard. I guess one's left foot is only used to the on/off operation of the clutch, and not the fine control our right feet have over the throttle/brakes. I have done left foot throttle on the motorway before when I got cramp in my right leg, if that counts...

Left foot braking in an automatic is really scary.

I guess all automatic drivers have done it once - forget it's an auto, stamp on the BIG left-hand pedal ready to change gear, retrieve passenger from windscreen...

and retrieve car following out of your boot. :D

Nick - you probably have an excuse as I'm sure the 928 must be a manual? At least you can say you drive each type of transmission on a regular basis...

I've only had one auto experience, in the slowest diesel landcruiser ever... Not a pleasant little trip!

SilveRS,

Get 1552 or CAG-COM, you can disable all bar the ABS. Agree left foot braking is a pain with the fly by wire. Handbrake turns are also better if you turn of the traction control (so I'm told ;) )

Cheers for the tip Jon, will try the handbrake without traction on. (not on a public road though);)

I used to use left foot braking when driving my Senator and previous automatics. Once your left foot gets the feel its quite safe and makes hill starts a total non-event. I also found it easier to adapt to than driving LHD cars and changing gear with the right hand.
